Quick Start Program Lets Developers Get Started Today
Apple Developer Program members can start moving their apps to Apple silicon today by applying for the Universal App Quick Start Program. The program provides access to documentation, forums support, beta versions of macOS Big Sur and Xcode 12, and includes the limited use of a DTK, which will enable developers to build and test their Universal 2 apps. The DTK, which must be returned to Apple at the end of the program, consists of a Mac mini with Apple’s A12Z Bionic SoC inside and desktop specs, including 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD, and a variety of Mac I/O ports. Developers can apply to the program at developer.apple.com, and the total cost of the program is $500.

Macs and PCs have traditionally used multiple chips for the CPU, I/O, security, and more. Introducing the next generation of Mac - Apple

Eu sunt chiar curios daca jucaria asta de M1 de la Apple chiar va sustine ce s-a tot spus in conferinta. x better performance, y better thermals, z better runtime, and so on. Sunt sigur ca pe undeva pe-acolo, cineva de la Intel isi baga unghia in gat... dar, si-au facut-o cu mana lor. Personal, eu ma bucur ca nu s-a adeverit zvonul acela, cum ca Apple va trece la AMD. Prefer sa mearga pe al lor in-house CPU.

Also, una din cele mai tari chestii: Universal Apps. Practic din asta castiga atat MacOS-ul cat si iOS-ul si iPadOS-ul (poate chiar si TVOS-ul). De-abia astept sa pot rula Mac apps pe iPad, si invers, sa am toate jocurile de iPad pe MacOS. Cu mici diferente, unde iarasi, mi-as fi dorit sa vad macar un MacBook cu touchscreen. Dar, cred ca nu vor sa-si canibalizeze iPad-urile...

Deja au aparut primele rezultate de la MacBook Air cu M1, si e super nice.

P.S. Am facut si eu acum un test pe al meu desktop (i9 cu 8 core-uri, 16 threaduri, 128GB DDR4), si da 1262 de puncte in single core. Deci mai lent decat "amaraciunea" asta de procesor de laptop (care da 1687 de puncte). In multicore, da un pic mai bine al meu (8714 vs 7433), dar totusi, are numar dublu de core-uri. So, not bad for a first CPU, right?

E aceeasi situatie ca la toate mobile chips - face cateva chestii bine, cu instructiunile de baza, insa nu se poate descurca cu heavy stuff.
Nu are memorie suficienta pt un GPU real, nr de cores e complet insuficient etc.

razvanrazy: eu sper ca glumesti. E primul lor procesor si cu toate astea bate deja i9 + GTX 1050 Ti. La performante, ca la eficienta este deja la ani lumina. Numai faptul ca o astfel de putere e posibila pe un MacBook Air si asta cu o autonomie de pana la 20 de ore, si deja e o alta clasa de notebooks. Daca-mi dai un singur exemplu cu care se poate compara, eu il mananc.

Eu ma bucur, mi-au dovedit ca am avut dreptate. ARM rulez. And will continue to do so. A stiut Nvidia de ce a cumparat ARM. Iar Intel si AMD vor avea in sfarsit un concurent pe masura. Dealtfel, AMD din cate am inteles deja a cerut niste patents pt. procesoare ARM, so... ;)

Man, compari mere cu pere. E ok pe clasa lor, dar nu se compara cu echivalentul pe desktop sau cu calcule mai complexe. Inteleg, esti foarte entuziasmat, foarte bine. Enjoy it.

Pe mine ma lasa rece si-ti spun si de ce. Este un cip ARM, e aceeasi problema ca si iPad - practic noile Macbooks au un cip de iPhone/iPad doar ca un pic mai puternic - si acum au problema ca trebuie rescrise toate aplicatiile pt a lucra pe instructiuni ARM - asa cum a fost cu photoshop for iPad care este mega limitat si inca nu merge cum trebuie - si asta pentru ca nu se porteaza ala de Mac ci trebuie facuta o versiune dumbed down care sa ruleze pe chipurile alea cu fff putine instructiuni.
Toate aplicatiile de la Apple deja le-au rescris, dar e un task f mare pt tot ce inseamna toata aplicatiile din macstore.
Nu ai vazut cu ce se lauda ei cand zic de Games in prezentare? Cu jocuri de telefon din Apple Arcade.

Ce legatura are "entuziasmul" cu testele sintetice, care arata negru pe alb ce poate face acel SoC? Serios, ai vazut testele, ce vrei mai mult? Ieri deja s-au livrat din noile MacBook-uri, deci zilele astea ar trebui sa avem review-uri serioase. Also, referitor la comparatia cu un desktop, a spus cumva Apple ca a lansat un laptop care e desktop replacement si nu stiam eu? Neah, e doar un laptop mult mai rapid. Asteapta Mac Pro-ul daca vrei sa vezi ce nebunie va fi. Pentru ca da, si acela tot cu ARM va merge.

Cat despre rescris aplicatiile, momentan merge bine merci cam totul via Rosetta 2 (pentru cei care nu vor sa-si rescrie aplicatiile). Chiar si cu emulare, inca se tine foarte bine.

Si da, e perfect pentru mine ca Apple MacBooks vor rula jocurile de iOS/iPadOS. Daca vroiam jocuri de PC imi luam un laptop cu Windows, si luam unul de gaming, nu laptop care are aproximativ 1Kg.

Sincer, eu nu detin un MacBook, dar de data asta chiar cred ca o sa-mi iau si eu unul, poate eventual la anul cand vor veni cu un M2. Pana acum MacBook-urile erau un fel de alternativa la Windows. Acum sunt altceva. And i love it just for beeing different.

Btw, eu stiu persoane care vor cumpara noul MacBook Air doar si pentru faptul ca tine enorm bateria. Practic uiti sa-l incarci. Restul, sunt doar chestii bonus.

P.S. Maaaan, dar ai un stil de a strica placerea unui om, de zici ca nu-i adevarat. Eu sunt mai batran asa, dar pe vremea mea ne bucuram de orice new tech iesit pe piata, indiferent cine il scotea. Vad ca voi cei mai "next-gen", nu va mai bucurati de nimic, totul e de cacao...

Sincer când am văzut performantele și ca bateria tine 20 de ore... Incredibil. Eu folosesc laptop stric pentru spital ce tine de scris, logistica, email și altele. Nu am nevoie de jocuri sau editat photo și video. Și am ales acum un an un zenbook pro de 14 inch, subțire și foarte ușor, ca un Macbook Air și faptul ca îl pot lua cu mine oricând fără sa ma deranjeze și ca se mișcă extrem de repede este dumnezeiesc :)).

Alesesem zenbook ca era mult mai ieftin ca un mac la vremea aceea dar dacă apare și la noi la 1000 de euro sunt pus în dificultate:)). Am dat skip deocamdată la telefon ca iPhone X încă merge brici. Mereu mi-am dorit un mac și cred ca noul procesor o sa ma convingă ca la anul sa bag mana în buzunar :)).


BTW nu am avut timp sa ma uit dar ce insemana fanless. Nu are niciun ventilator???

AndRewqp: MacBook Air-ul nou asa e, nu are niciun ventilator. Deci zero noise, zero sanse sa se strice fiind ceva mecanic. E ca iPad-ul. MacBook Pro-ul daca nu ma insel are un ventilator, dar nu va intra prea des in functiune, ci doar cand incepe procesorul sa faca throttle (super heavy tasks).

Man, intentia mea nu e sa stric nicio bucurie nimanui, doar sa temperez asteptarile. Nu e vb ca e mai slab ca ceva de desktop, dar e bun doar pe anumite lucruri, fff limitate. Vezi iPhone/iPad care au fost si sunt fff bune pe single core si atat.

Anywho, eu am Mac de ff multi ani si stiu ce inseamna si sincer, nu am avut niciodata durata de viata la baterie, la ce fac eu lite, mai mare de 4-5h, in niciun caz nu am ajuns la 10h daca vreau internet - si asta doar pe browsing (adica si youtube) si social media.

De-aia iPad-urile si iPhone-urile sunt in top la multiscore pe mobile? Nu stiu, cred ca tu faci o greseala majora, comparand niste CPU-uri de desktop, cu TDP-uri de peste 150W, cu unele de laptop, care la 5-15W ajung la aceleasi scoruri. Chiar nu inteleg ce ai fi vrut sa faca pentru a te satisface. Sa bage procesor Intel de desktop pe laptop, ca sa ai aceeasi mizerie de rezultate din ultimele 5 ani? Normal ca n-ai ajuns. Ai un Intel in el. Ai arhitectura x86, una care nu a fost niciodata regandita din start pt. mobile jobs. Ceea ce Apple tocmai a facut. Arhitectura ARM se scaleaza perfect pe mobile (in special cu LittleBIG - core-uri high performance + core-uri low consumption).

Sa stii ca este ok sa avem pareri diferite. Nu trebuie sa o iei atat de personal. Nu e vorba de satisfacut pe mine, pentru ca nu sunt publicul tinta - probabil imi voi schimba Mac-u in 3-4 ani cu ce va fi atunci pe piata.

Dar la fel ca la console - se anunta ceva wow, mind blowing, extra super mega tare si apoi vezi ca de fapt nu e true 4k gaming si RT calumea. Si apoi vine cineva care zice - pai ce te astepti la 500$? Pai ma astept sa fie cum marketeaza ei. Pentru ca nu le-am cerut eu sa aibe 8k pe cutie, sau 4K pe generatia actuala, cand de fapt nici pe "next gen" nu duce in 4k.

In cazul asta, ma astept sa fie mai bun ca 90% din laptopurile de pe piata. Pentru ca asta au zis. Si nu ma refer la alea cu i3. Si nu ma refer la stat si vorbit pe facebook. Dar again - nu sunt publicul tinta si nu am de ce sa ma entuziasmez.
Daca vreau o aplicatie de telefon - o joc pe telefon.

Also, referitor la battery life - fix asta e problema. Modelul meu (ca toate de pana acum) ei le marketau ca avand 10h battery life. Eu nu am trecut niciodata de 4-5h in ce faceam. Si asta repet, doar browsing, youtube si poate putin whatsapp din aplicatie.
Iar cand scoteam pe TV un film 1080p (deci cu monitorul inchis) am avut filme de 3+h la care s-a inchis si am adus incarcator.

Sper sincer sa vad 1000 de teste in care matura pe jos cu orice competitor. Sper sa vad Apple ca pe ce era inainte cand ii idolarizam.
Din pacate pentru mine, s-a pierdut "magia" aia si nu prea mai am incredere in mare lucru din ce zic. Si nu sunt negativist sau hater, doar realist.

Nu mai vorbesc cu tine pe tema asta, pentru ca tu oricum nu esti publicul tinta, si oricum nu-ti place, si oricum nu stiu ce vrei de fapt...

Las aici doar pentru cine e interesat, un screenshot in care e o comparatie intre MacBook Air Early 2020 (cu i7) vs noul MacBook Air Late 2020 (cel cu M1). Pe langa scorurile care vorbesc de la sine, de mentionat ca SSD-ul M.2 e 2x faster, ca autonomia e de aprox. 2x better, si ca acum pe langa aplicatiile x86, vor functiona Universal Apps (which I love).
