Soulcalibur 6 is finally happening. After years of teasing, publisher Bandai Namco announced the long-awaited sequel in its weapons-based fighting game series today.

Like Bandai Namco’s Tekken 7, Soulcalibur 6 will run on Unreal Engine 4. Producer Motohiro Okubo will serve as producer on the game.
The new Soulcalibur is coming in 2018 to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, just in time for the series’ 20-year anniversary. The first Soulcalibur came to arcades in 1998, with its beloved Dreamcast port arriving the following year. The game was preceded by Soul Edge, which spawned the franchise in 1995.

The most recent entry in the mainline series, Soulcalibur 5, was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. It was set 17 years after the previous entry and focused on the children of some of the franchise’s best known fighters. Since Soulcalibur 5, Bandai Namco re-released an HD version of Soulcalibur 2 and released Soulcalibur: Lost Swords, a free-to-play version of the game based on Soulcalibur 5.
