THQ Nordic has announced that a remake of the classic 2001 PC game Gothic is entering full production.

Late last year, THQ Nordic released a playable teaser for a Gothic remake on PC, and tasked fans with completing surveys in order to establish what people would want from Gothic going forward. Luckily for THQ Nordic and fans of the series, feedback was overwhelmingly positive - 94.8% of people who played the teaser wanted development continued, and a full game released later down the line. In light of this, THQ Nordic are setting up a new studio based in Barcelona to work on the game.

It wasn't all sunshine though, with the combat system in particular scoring quite low on the surveys, and players demanding a grittier, less colourful world. This might all change going forward, with the publisher saying they will "assess what players liked and what they want to be different" when developing the game.

"We are up for the challenge to develop a full Gothic Remake which will stay as faithfully as possible to the original experience and transport the atmospheric world of Gothic into a high quality look and carefully modernizing certain gameplay mechanics," said Reinhard Pollice, Business and Product Development Director at THQ Nordic.

Gothic Remake is due to arrive on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PC in 2021 or beyond.
