Un "pirat" plateste $1.5 milioane companiei Nintendo
O curte de justitie din Australia a decis ca Nintendo sa primeasca compensatii in valoare de $1.5 milioane din partea unui cetatean din tara respectiva. Barbatul este obligat sa plateasca acesti bani deoarece a copiat si a uploadat pe trackere jocul New Super Mario Bros. Acesta a aparut pentru prima data pe site-urile ilegale in 6 Noiembrie 2009, cu aproximativ o saptamana inainte de lansarea oficiala in Australia. Surprinzator sau nu, jocul nu a suferit atat de mult dupa urma pirateriei, reusind sa ajunga la impresionantul numar de 10 milioane de exemplare vandute in doar 8 saptamani.
�Nintendo has been working to combat piracy for approximately 20 years,� a declarat compania japoneza printr-un comunicat de presa. �Piracy is a significant threat to Nintendo�s business, as well as over 1,400 game development companies working to provide unique and innovative games for the Nintendo platform. Fewer sales of Nintendo�s hardware and software systems means fewer resources that Nintendo, its licensees, developers and publishers have to create and market new video game products which is ultimately to the detriment of video game enthusiasts. When there is a decrease in game development, there is also a decrease in the number of jobs in the industry. The existence of piracy jeopardises the strength of the video game industry overall.�
Urmarile acestei infractiuni nu au intarziat sa apara. Un reprezentat al companiei Nintendo a afirmat ca de acum inainte jocurile consolei Wii vor aparea mai tarziu in Australia in comparatie cu restul lumii. "Nintendo Australia is always pushing for games to be released here at the same time as the rest of the world, so we were pleased to get New Super Mario Bros. Wii before anyone else... Unfortunately, due to to the actions of this individual, future release dates may be affected for Australia, which is disappointing for us."
