Microsoft will keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for ‘several more years’ beyond existing dealOriginally Posted by The Verge
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has spoken out against Microsoft's offer to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for "at least several more years" beyond Sony's existing agreement with publisher Activision Blizzard, calling the deal "inadequate on many levels" - despite Microsoft's insistence it went "well beyond typical gaming industry agreements".

https://www.eurogamer.net/playstatio...deal-in-personBoss of PlayStation Jim Ryan travelled to Brussels to meet EU regulators in person to discuss Microsoft's impending Activision Blizzard purchase.
Ryan has been vocal in his criticism of the proposed $68bn deal, which would see Xbox own the Call of Duty publisher.
MS au 23 de first party studios , Sony are 13 .
Pana la urma asta e problemaAnd even if Call of Duty was to remain on PlayStation, there's also the likelihood of Microsoft launching future COD games via Xbox Game Pass - leaving customers with a choice of whether to play the game via their Xbox subscriptions, or stump up £70 on PlayStation.
FTC sues to block Microsoft's Activision Blizzard merger | Engadget
Se pare ca minciunile spuse de Microsoft ajung sa-i doara acum.“Microsoft has already shown that it can and will withhold content from its gaming rivals,” Holly Vedova, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, said in a press release. “Today, we seek to stop Microsoft from gaining control over a leading independent game studio and using it to harm competition in multiple dynamic and fast-growing gaming markets.”
"The FTC pointed to Microsoft’s record of acquiring and using valuable gaming content to suppress competition from rival consoles, including its acquisition of ZeniMax, parent company of Bethesda Softworks (a well-known game developer)," the agency said in a press release. "Microsoft decided to make several of Bethesda's titles including Starfield and Redfall Microsoft exclusives despite assurances it had given to European antitrust authorities that it had no incentive to withhold games from rival consoles."
Speaking to Bloomberg following the announcement of the acquisition, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said that future Bethesda games will be released on PC and Xbox, and via Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. As for third-party platforms, Spencer said, “We’ll take other consoles on a case-by-case basis.”
Now that Microsoft is poised to take full control of ZeniMax and everything in its portfolio — Microsoft says the deal is expected to close in the second half of its 2021 fiscal year, which runs from Jan. 1-June 30, 2021

Nu vad nici o minciuna, ce e mai sus este din documentele trimise EU.n its merger notice to the European Commission on ZeniMax, Microsoft stated: “Microsoft will honor all
of ZeniMax’s obligations to continue to make its current games available on other gaming hardware,
including two planned console exclusive releases for the Sony PlayStation 5, Deathloop and Ghostwire:
Tokyo.” (Microsoft ZeniMax Form CO, January 29, 2021, at pp. 4-5)
o It further stated: “Microsoft will not make any existing ZeniMax games exclusive to Xbox. They
will continue to be available for purchase for PCs and other gaming hardware for which they are
currently available, which will ensure that they continue to be available to current players of
those games. Microsoft will not be removing players’ access to any current games, no matter
where they currently play.” (Microsoft ZeniMax Form CO, January 29, 2021, at p. 13)
For future games, Microsoft also maintained its position:
• In its merger notice to the European Commission on ZeniMax, Microsoft stated: “Future decisions on
whether to distribute ZeniMax games for other consoles will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into
account player demand and sentiment. Factors that will inform Microsoft’s decision-making on future
games include consumer demand and preference and the willingness of third parties to work with
Microsoft to launch games for their devices.” (Microsoft ZeniMax Form CO, January 29, 2021, at p. 5)
Microsoft was making all the arguments it now makes about why it wouldn't deprive Sony of Call of Duty:
- wouldn't make $$ sense
- not enough people would switch consoles
Si chiar in quote-ul tau zice "Future decisions on whether to distribute ZeniMax games for other consoles will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account player demand and sentiment."
Also Sony
A new internal report from MLex says this:
Microsoft's Call of Duty deal with Nintendo is misleading, Sony argues
Sony has criticized Microsoft's deal to make the game Call of Duty available on Nintendo — should its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard be approved by regulators — as smoke and mirrors, MLex has learned.
Activision Blizzard could supply Call of Duty to Nintendo today, but doesn't, because Nintendo's younger audience is not interested in the first-person shooter and a previous version of the game on its console was a commercial flop, the arch critic of the deal says, MLex understands.
Instead of being a logical business decision, the licensing agreement is a tactic designed to make Microsoft — whose acquisition has drawn concerns in the EU, UK and US — look cooperative with regulators, the argument goes.
Furthermore, Nintendo's Switch could not run Call of Duty easily and may never be able to, Sony argues, MLex understands. Developing a version of the game compatible with the Switch could take years, making a 10-year licensing deal meaningless.
It is easier for Nintendo to enter into such an agreement, Sony says, MLex has learned. Nintendo doesn't need to worry about equal treatment for its subscription service or cloud gaming service as those are not areas where it currently competes aggressively, the argument goes.
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-64047809Microsoft faces legal action from 10 gamers to block its merger with Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard. The proposed acquisition would give Microsoft "far-outsized market power in the video game industry," according to the complaint "with the ability to foreclose rivals, limit output, reduce consumer choice, raise prices, and further inhibit competition."
https://gamerant.com/eu-contradicts-...d-acquisition/The EU Commission has issued a statement refuting one of the United States Federal Trade Commission's key claims listed as justification for blocking Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. On Thursday, the FTC shared a public complaint claiming Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition was "reasonably likely to substantially lessen competition or tend to create a monopoly." Apparently, the accuracy of part of the FTC's claims against Microsoft has prompted a correction from the EU Commission.
Cam penibil.... FTC-ul
