Choice: Linux or Red Dead Redemption? on VGChartz.com
When Firmware 3.21 launched, many people thought it was a joke (partially due to its 1st April release date). In fact, it was nothing of the sort. It removed Other OS support, already omitted from the PlayStation 3 Slim, and led to some three separate lawsuits as people claimed that Sony was taking away advertised features. It also managed to bring down the United States Airforce, which was using PS3s with Linux for processing power (fine, it didn't, but how awesome would that be?)
And now Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar's Wild-West shooter-RPG, requires the update to play even the offline component of the game (it is impossible to connect to the PSN without the latest firmware anyway). You can't make the excuse that your PS3 isn't internet-connected either, because the update is actually included on the disc.
So just a warning: if you want to keep Linux on your PS3, stay away from Red Dead Redemption. Incidentally, the VGChartz review of the game should be up fairly soon.
