Electronic Arts, DICE and GameInformer have been responsible over the last week for spilling the beans on the reveal of the upcoming sequel to the Battlefield franchise with Battlefield 3. According to recent scans of the magazine, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach, claims that Battlefield 3 is a next-generation game for current generation consoles.
When discussing the upcoming title in GI, Bach revealed that the development team had to rebuild the Frostbite engine from the ground up in order to achieve everything the team was looking to achieve. If youve seen the
Radiosity tech demo of the new Frostbite engine, youll know exactly what hes talking about. Some of the larger changes to the game take place with the real-time lighting and large-scale destruction capabilities of the engine.
You shouldnt have to wait for the Xbox 720 or PlayStation 4, he said. We have to deliver this to you now, and we wanted to do it on all the platforms.
Furthermore, EA has been quoted as saying the engine displays incredible technology that takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights.
If all goes as planned we should have our hands on what is expected to be one of the best shooters to date. Hopefully they can deliver on the hype, because gamers have heard all of it before.
