Nu va fi 3D (thx God for that!).
A new report released today gives more information on the situation, stating that Apple is planning to ditch Samsung and use Sharp’s IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) LCD panels for the upcoming iPad 3 and the iPhone 4. According to Peter Misek, Jeffries analyst, The modified IGZO technology has a resolution of 330 dots-per-inch, and will enable Apple to create thinner devices with lower power consumption. This is in direct conflict with reports that Apple is using dual-bar LED backlighting, because high resolution IGZO displays do not require the extra lighting.
The IGZO panels will initially be used in the next generation iPad, and Misek states that Apple will be able to get the panels at a discounted price because of a high capital commitment. Sharp originally began producing IGZO panels in the middle of the 2011 fiscal year, so this is brand new technology that Apple is looking into.
Sharp is currently planning to ramp up production of its LCD panels throughout 2012, and has said that the primary use for the displays will be for “tablet terminals.” As with all of Apple’s pre-production information, this is speculation, but the rumors – dual backlighting and IGZO – confirm the company’s plan to install a Retina display in the next iteration of the iPad.
