El a scris o carte in 2017, Amazon.com: Blood, Sweat, and Pixels: The Triumphant, Turbulent Stories Behind How Video Games Are Made (9780062651235): Schreier, Jason: Books, despre problemele de development ale unor jocuri, de la indies la AAA, cum ar fi Pillars of Eternity, Uncharted 4, Stardew Valley, Diablo III, Halo Wars, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Shovel Knight, Destiny, The Witcher 3 sau Star Wars 1313.

“In the end, I have to make the right decision,” he continued. “The strength of the Halo franchise — the health and ability of the team… are things tracking toward the quality of where you want the game?”

Spencer continued on to admit that he and his team — including 343’s Bonnie Ross and Xbox Game Studios’ Matt Booty — deliberated upon breaking Infinite into sections and releasing individual sections at different dates, though this was ultimately abandoned.

“It just didn’t feel, to all of us, like the Halo release that we would want,” Spencer said.

Spencer said that his leadership team discussed what could be done late last week, and that all up, the actual final decision-making process took around 24 hours, at which point an announcement was then made to the public.

“I’ll apologise to the fans, because I never like to set up expectations and then not hit them,” Spencer said, “but I also believe we’re making the right decision, in the long run, for both Xbox and Halo and our customers.”

Xbox Series X will head to store shelves in November 2020; Halo Infinite is expected on Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X in 2021.

L-a uitat lumea pe Mattrick, n-are nimic, ne ajuta 343 generatia asta sa pornim bine.

Halo Infinite Development Troubles Outlined in New Report

343 Industries’ Halo Infinite has seen quite a lot of focus lately, even before its delay into 2021. The demo at Xbox Games Showcase put a damper on the expectations of several Halo fans with regards to the game’s visual quality. One always believed development to be going through some issues, as evidenced by the departures of creative director Tim Longo and lead producer Mary Olsen. However, a new report by Brad Sams on Thurrott reveals that issues for the game began even before that.

343 Industries began working on a brand new engine, Slipspace, while also developing the game – tentatively known as Halo 6 – for the Xbox Series X, which was a ways off from being announced. However, the problems began before E3 2019 with 343 Industries sourcing a lot of the development to third-party contractors. Sams describes the coordination between the various companies as “rough, at best” with one source stating that “the out-sourcing for Infinite was at a ratio higher than a typical studio undertakes during development which has caused significant headaches for cross-development collaboration.”

Sams believes the E3 2019 trailer was outsourced and that game wasn’t playable at the same level of fidelity at the time. Several people also talked about “significant disagreements internally” which led to Longo leaving in August 2019. Interestingly, as the challenges of delivering the game by Holiday 2020 began to mount, discussions to split the game’s campaign and multiplayer started in either late 2019 or early 2020. While the final decision was made recently, the discussion started a lot earlier than expected.

Other issues include ShowTime’s Halo TV series being “a significant distraction for 343 management. Often times taking their priority instead of focusing on making sure development progress is on the right path to reaching its targeted deadline”; a disconnect between engineering and marketing, especially as it pertains to the announcement of multiplayer being free to play; and of course, the impact of COVID-19 on top of everything else. Take the report with a grain of salt but we’ll see how development on Halo Infinite carries on in the coming year.

Today we’re proud to reveal Certain Affinity’s partnership with 343 Industries on Halo Infinite. Our team has been working closely with 343 since December of last year, continuing a long history of collaboration between the two studios working on multiple Halo titles dating back to 2006.

Led by Max Hoberman, Certain Affinity’s Founder and President, who served as the former Multiplayer and Online Lead for the Halo series, the past 14 years have bonded into an incredible partnership across the series, and we’re excited to continue our outstanding work together.

“Halo Infinite has huge long-term ambitions, while also giving a respectful nod to the franchise’s past. This is an exciting combination. Given our own deep roots and long-time connections to the series, we couldn’t be more excited to help 343 realize this vision” – Max Hoberman

After Halo Infinite was initially announced in June 2018, CA was always hopeful about getting a chance to work with 343 Industries on another Halo project, especially one with the scale detailed during E3. We’re looking forward to players getting to experience another great chapter in the Halo franchise.

He and his team have demonstrated an amazing ability to deliver new content, an excellent flighting program, and substantive updates across MCC over the past year. We look forward to having his expertise directly on the Halo Infinite team as we look to deliver a quality Free-To-Play multiplayer experience for everyone.

And last, but certainly not least, we’re excited to announce that our old friend Joseph Staten will be returning home to Halo for a bit. After helping launch Tell Me Why this week, he'll be coming on board as project lead for campaign as we push towards our 2021 release. The team has been working hard realizing our vision for campaign and we’re happy to have Joseph’s help to get it to the finish line.

For those of you who don’t know Joseph Staten, he wore many hats while working at Bungie for all of their Halo titles and even Destiny before joining the Xbox Games Studios family in 2014. If you enjoy Halo’s storylines, characters, and overall universe, he’s definitely one of the key people you have to thank. As product lead on Halo Infinite, however, Joseph will be focused on supporting the campaign team’s existing, talented, creative leaders and ensuring they have everything they need to create an awesome Halo game. His return to the franchise excites me and we’re all looking forward to having him on board!
