    Tocmai am vazut o stire in care cei de la Crytek au decis sa faca CryEngine3 gratis. Adica cu alte cuvinte acum toata lumea poate descarca SDK-ul lor pentru a-si incerca talentul. Trebuie doar sa intrati pe site-ul lor si sa descarcat (easy as that). Iar in urma cu 2 ani cei de la Epic games au facut engine-ul lor gratis (Unreal Engine 3).

    For those that fancy themselves as sculptors of the future, Crytek’s world-building game engine is available now for free. Unreal.

    The press release announcing the launch of the CryEngine 3 SDK touts it as the “latest all-in-one game development solution”. What’s more, it’s free for all non-commercial endeavours.
    The “What you see is what you play” third-generation toolkit is available from the CryDev website. It weighs in at a smidgen over 658MB and has seen close to 20,000 downloads at the time of writing.
    Documentation and community support is also available via the website, so you’ve really no excuse to dive in and attempt to create the games of tomorrow, today – “Crytek require only 20% of the developer’s revenues from the commercial launch of their game.”
    It goes up against the Unreal Development Kit, which is also free, and should result in some exciting projects from the visionaries among you.
    Just do us a favour and, for the sake of originality, try to create something without death and violence in it, OK?

    Stirea asta m-a facut foarte fericit avand in vedere ca zilele astea o sa imi cumpar un laptop nou si in mai putin de o luna merg in Anglia la Game Design. Asa ca o sa incerc engine-urile astea cat de curnad. Ma gandeam sa cumpar si Amnesia: The Dark Descent tot pentru engine-ul lor care il ofera impreuna cu jocul celor de la frictional games (HPL 2) Engine.


    Ma gandeam ca poate sunt si alti entuziasti pe forum si ma cred ca aici ar trebui sa postam aici idei, nelamuriri sau tot felu de "creatii"... just for the fun of it (oricum si de facem ceva de distractie tot capatam experienta...so it`s a win-win situation). Sa aveti spor!

    M-am jucat si eu cu CryEngine 3. Trebuie sa ma acomodez cu el, vreau sa vad daca pot face ceva top-down cu el, sau pot face doar shootere. HPL 2-ul poate fi downloadat gratuit, parca era chiar pe github un repo.

    Dintre toate, ma atrag foarte, foarte tare Source Engine-ul si UDK. Din pacate, Source-ul e putin cam complicat pentru mine, iar in UDK nu prea am avut timp sa ma joc.

    De departe cel mai accesibil pare CryEngine 3.

    Apropo, vezi ca numele complet e Software Development Kit, adica este cel mai folosit, Developing nu prea vezi.

    aha. cred ca ai dreptate. Eram destul de obosit aseara . Rog un moderator sa schimbe numele thread-ului in Software Development Kit. Multumesc!

    Free CryEngine 3 SDK downloaded over 100,000 times | VG247
    Destructoid noted the staggering level of interest on the CryDev website, which lists the total number of downloads at 103,277 at time of writing.
    Crytek made the SDK free to download last week, under a revenue-sharing model not unlike the Unreal Engine’s, in which developers aren’t required to shell out unless they produce a commercial release.
    To sell a game produced on the CryEngine SDK, you’ll need to apply for a commercial license and fork over 20 percent of the take – which seems pretty fair, given the power Crytek has dropped casually in your lap.

    The SDK was released on August 18 and within a week was downloaded over 100,000 times, and by week three surpassed the 300,000 mark.
    “It’s great news for us, and it seems like global coverage, not just Europe-heavy,” Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli told Develop. “It’s being picked up equally across the US, Europe and Asia.
    “While we have been contacted by a lot of game developers, we also have people from outside gaming that want to use the engine. But of course we hope indies will have great ideas and use the engine and we can’t wait to see them make really innovate games. That’s going to be really fun.”
    As of this post, it has been downloaded 449,144 times.

    Unity hits 1 million developers | VG247
    Unity has been registered and used by 1 million developers, the company has announced. The engine provider has seen an additional 250,000 developers since the end of 2011. The company added it intends to extend its business into Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
    Desi e un engine extrem de bun, moment nu ma intereseaza deoarece trebuie cumparat...cei care au facut Unity nu sunt la fel de generosi ca si baietii de la Epic sau Crytek.


    Anyway...eu pentru o lucrare la un curs trebuie sa fac un nivel de Death Match (ma rog aveam de ales: Death Match. Team Death Match, Capture the Flat sau Player vs the World). Deoarece nu am mai folosit UDK in viata mea, am zis sa nu incerc ceva prea ambitios. Programul e destul de usor si citind din cateva carti+ tutoriale de pe net am reusit sa invat foarte multe chestii intr-un timp foarte scurt (cursurile nu au fost de cine stie ce folos). Singura problema e ca am si alte chestii de facut pentru alte cursuri (examen in Java, animatie in Maya etc). asa ca timpul e limitat.

    Anyway recomand Unreal Development Kit-ul oricarei persoane care vrea sa incerce sa faca ceva mai mult decat sa butoneze un joc (sa faca un nivel, un mod...ceva). Nu iti trebuie programming skills si nici cine stie cat talent artistic (bine-nteles daca vrei sa mai adaugi si alte creatii in nivel...atunci poate ar trebui sa stii Maya/3DS Max). Sincer am fost suprins cat de usor e de folosit si invatat. Tot ce ai nevoie e un pic de devotament.

    De asemenea, daca cineva are curaj sa incerce minunatia asta de UDK (o zic mai mult sau mai putin in serios la ora asta ) dar intampina cateva probleme, atunci nu ezitati sa postati aici si daca pot, o sa va dau o mana de ajutor .

    retrag ce am spus de Unity mai sus: au si o versiune free care e ok dar au si o versiune pro care costa 1500$ si care da foarte multe chestii in plus (apa mult mai realista, dynamic shading etc). Dar si versiunea normala e de n ori mai tare decat UDK-ul. Atatea posibilitati . Il recomand cu caldura. Puteti face rost de el de pe site-ul oficial: Unity - Game Engine

    Unity headed to PS4, PS3, Vita, PS Mobile and future cloud services | VG247

    Gematsu reports Unity will hit the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Vita and PS Mobile platforms with “optimized deployment”.

    Interestingly, the announcement makes note of future cloud services, too; Sony has made much of its integration of Gaikai tech into the PlayStation Network, potentially allowing for instant games streaming, so presumably this is what Unity is referring to.

    As well as the ease of development the Unity engine offers would-be PlayStation developers, it also makes it simpler to port existing games developed using the near-ubiquitous tech.

    Unity for PlayStation is expected to launch in northern autumn. Nintendo signed a similar deal with Unity, but offers a free engine license with all Wii U dev kits to help entice indies to the new console.

    si in alta ordine de idei, ieri am fost la facultate si am vazut cele mai bune lucrari de la Creative Department. Environment-uri si personaje foarte interesante modelate si apoi portate in UDK, Unity si a fost un elev cu Cry Engine. De departe cel din urma m-a lasat dupa ce am vazut ce superb arata apa si flacarile de la diferite torte.

    Eu semestrul acesta am lucrat in Unity si am facut un fel de mini RPG fara combat. Nu e mare lucru, da eu ma axam pe partea de design (not being a programmer and all). In momentul de fata lucrez la un site/blog si o sa imi pun assignment-urile si mesh-urile facute in timpul liber. To be continued...

    Unity announces new 2D tools for engine, new publishing initiative, Facebook SDK | VG247

    Now in beta, the first iteration of the 2D tools will be released with the Unity 4.3 update this fall.

    “We want to be relentless in the improvement of Unity and its usefulness to all developers,” said David Helgason, the firm’s CEO. “Unity can and has been used for the development of many amazing 2D projects, but we knew that it could be better. So we are taking a leap forward by introducing fundamental tools to make Unity a truly great 2D engine.”

    Here’s some the tools and how the development works according to the press release:

    The charge to improve workflow begins with the introduction of a dedicated scene view, which includes specialized 2D scene manipulation tools. Scene view can be toggled between the traditional view or set as the default when creating a project.
    Importing, manipulating, and working with 2D assets are made easier with the addition of a new sprite texture importer type, automated atlasing, and dedicated 2D renderer
    component. Adding 2D art to a scene is as easy as dragging a sprite from the asset library into the scene where Unity will then automatically create an object.
    Additionally, the Unity animation editor has also been upgraded with “dope sheet” functionality and visual sprite animation editing leading to much greater control over complex animations.
    Finally, the specialized Box2D physics engine has been integrated into Unity. This means better performance, more stable simulation and smaller game builds. Additionally, polygon collider generation from sprite textures means quicker creation of accurate, but fully editable, physical collider meshes for refined physical response between objects in a scene.
    In addition to the new toolset, the firm is also launching a new publishing initiative and support for titles created using it toolset.

    The first title to be published by the company is Roadhouse Interactive’s Freeride Ski Cross and Black Tower’s Archangel.

    “We’ve worked hard over the years to create a technological canvas that allows developers of all sizes to realise their wildest creative visions,” said Helgason told GI International. “Now, thanks to our unique combination of developer trust, technological leadership, newly announced Unity Cloud services, and strong relationships with key distribution partners, Unity Games is in an awesome and unique position to make a hugely positive impact on the lives of game developers.”

    This initiative will also help developers with guidance regarding monetization, as well as” advertising, analytics, marketing, testing, and user acquisition under the Unity Cloud banner.

    Unity’s new incentive will focus on independent mobile developers at first.

    The engine company rounded out a busy day by announcing a new SDK for Facebook. Apparently, 90 million of Facebook’s 260 million users are already playing games made with Unity, up from 30 million at the start of this year. The new SDK should make it even easier for Unity developers to get their games on the social media platform. More details on the SDK are available on this Facebook blog post.

    Gamasutra - Sony releases level editor that's open source and engine-agnostic

    Developers in need of level design tech, take heart: Sony has released a standalone level editor that developers can download and use for free under the terms of the Apache 2.0 open source license.

    The editor purports to be compatible with any game engine via its API suite, and offers a WYSIWYG interface and tools written in a mixture of C# and C++. It's designed to render in 3D using DirectX 11, and supports simultaneous use by multiple developers.

    The editor was built using Sony's Authoring Tools Framework, a game development toolset that was released to the public as open source software earlier this year. Presumably, the company is hoping to drum up goodwill among developers and attract more independent talent to its platforms.

    The ATF itself a set of software components, written in C#, that has been used to build tools for a variety of Sony first-party games, including Naughty Dog's Last Of Us level editor and the sequence editor Guerrilla Games used to build multiple Killzone games.

    You can download the Level Editor and the ATF toolset right now from Sony's Github page.
    Banuiesc ca daca vrei sa atragi atentia celor de la Sony, cred ca ar fi foarte ok sa lucrezi cat mai mult cu acest level editor.
