    Dragon Age 2

Dragon Age 2 confirmed, full announcement incoming

EAs gone and confirmed Dragon Age 2 as a real thing.

There are no details as yet, but the games name was listed in a press release on the shifting fortunes of Warhammer Online yesterday.

Currently announced projects at BioWare include the development of ongoing downloadable content for Mass Effect 2, one of the highest rated video games of all time, Dragon Age 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2009s RPG of the Year Dragon Age: Origins, and the story-driven massively multiplayer online game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

BioWare teased a reveal on Twitter last night.

EA confirmed in a fiscal release back in February that a new Dragon Age title would release in the publishers fourth quarter this year thats the first three months of 2011.

At the time, the game was called Dragon Age Title TBA. It was listed as releasing for consoles, handhelds and PC.

A February 1, 2011 date for something Dragon Age-related was teased by EA back in March.

EA confirmed yesterday that its gamescom press conference would take place on August 17, so fingers crossed for a good look at it then.

Dragon Age 2 has new hero and story, confirms GI cover

It’s a good day for BioWare fans indeed: GI’s just shown off Dragon Age 2 as the cover for its next issue. The mag mentions that the game takes place in “a different part of the world” of Ferelden, features a new lead character and “a ton of surprising improvements that will shed even more light on the lore of the Dragon Age universe.”Pretty awesome, si?It was spotted earlier that BioWare was set to announce the sequel, just as the developer teased on Twitter that it would be “a great day for BioWare fans.”No specific date has been confirmed, but February 2011 sounds on the money.EA has already said the game will release in its fourth fiscal quarter, meaning it’ll hit between January and March 2011.

    Dragon Age II details

This information comes form the latest Game Informer…

    - Can import data from the original game
    - Flemeth will appear
    - Causing issues with party members won’t always be a bad thing:

“They won’t necessarily leave. They may still join you, but they’re going to try to show you up, and that may influence battle in a different way.”

    - Mass Effect 2 conversation wheel, now a symbol is shown to show what sort of reply it is (ex: aggressive or sarcastic)
    - Manner in which the story unfolds will be different than previous BioWare titles:

“Dragon Age II has a framed narrative structure, which means that the exploits of Hawke occured in the past, but are being retold in the present.” “Narrators with unique insights into the events in question tell the tale of his past adventures.”

    - Events from the original at the start may be shown, but from a different perspective:

“Dragon Age II begins as the events of Origins are still taking place, so you may see some familiar events from a different angle.”

    - Will see the consequences of our actions sooner instead of a little text at the end of the game
    - PC version’s combat system the same for the most part:

“The PC version implements the same strategic approach afforded by a mouse-and-keyboard control scheme. Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles, Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360.”

    Another quote:

“You may be controlling a different character in Dragon Age II, but the choices your Grey Warden made in Origins are still imported from your save and reflected in the world.”

    About the conversation system:

“Dragon Age II uses a conversation system similar to Mass Effect’s, where players select paraphrased versions of the dialogue from a wheel. An icon in the middle of the wheel even illustrates the line’s basic intent (like aggressive or sarcastic), so you can focus more on the interaction rather than reading and analyzing your dialogue choices.”

Game Informer speaking about the game, having played the Xbox 360 version:

“[Game Informer] can confirm that it is faster, more responsive, and more fluid than before. As soon as you press a button, something happens. As a warrior, Hawke threw down special strikes and used a new dash move to slash through darkspawn with ease. It isn’t on the Dynasty Warriors side of the spectrum, but with obvious improvements to the targeting system and animations, playing Dragon Age II with a controller finally feels natural.”
Dragon Age 2 Slated For March 2011

Just hours after becoming an official game, Dragon Age 2 has also gotten a release date. In a press release earlier today, EA indicated that the game will ship in “March 2011,” for PC, Xbox, and PS3.

Dragon Age II's Hawke is customizable, can be female

Following our announcement of Dragon Age II with details on lead character Hawke, you were worried character customization options would be absent. Thankfully, this is not the case and as suspected, BioWare is mashing the two systems of their flagship RPG series' Mass Effect and Dragon Age together.

The new system does put you into a pre-determined role, even eliminating your ability to choose race (Hawke is human), however you can still choose a class and customize him...or her. Not sure Hawke is such a great name for a lady, but we digress.

Another major point of interest is this time around, the lead will be fully voiced. Though we loved the system in the original Dragon Age, many would admit it did feel somewhat unnatural. Is this good enough reason for change? You decide.

Finally, it seems the RPG sequel will not be going the typical route plot-wise. Don't expect this installment and multiple other sequels and spin-offs to be tired rehashings of the struggle against the Blight -- there's not even an "ancient evil" to go after in number two. Rather, Hawke himself will be the focus here. It'll be interesting to see if his background as a survivor of the Blight -- and later, Champion of the Free Marches township Kirkwall -- provides for a story equal or superior to its predecessor's.

"BioWare is mashing the two systems of their flagship RPG series' Mass Effect and Dragon Age together" Adica il fac mai mult actiune decat RPG?

VG247 Blog Archive Dragon Age II experience to be different across all platforms, says Zeschuk
Zeschuk jumped to defend the work done with the original, adding the experience on DAII will be different in the controls and experience.
“I would, in a sense,” he told us at Develop, “defend our Dragon Age 1 work, in that I actually like the console limitations, but I think that in Dragon Age 2 we’ve had the opportunity to work from a final platform and kind of design the gameplay to really cater for them.”
“Again, there’ll be differences between the PC version and the console versions,” he continued, “by the simple nature of the input system and the experience.
“I think when people start seeing it in action they’re going to be really impressed with how it looks on all platforms.”

The game was recently revealed for a March 2011 release on 360, PC and PS3, with its first trailer coming in Cologne next month during EA’s press conference at gamescom.
