Android 4.4 KITKAT

Eu am meteo, timpul si rutele pana la cateva destinatii setate de mine, plus stirile pe cateva domenii de interes (nexus 4, android si auto, setate de mine in urma cautarilor pe browser). Mai imi pun si remindere pe zona (ex: cumpara paine setat in zona mega-imageului de langa casa).

Mai imi arata si programul autobuzelor, cand sunt aproape de statii. Am uitat de asta, dar e introdusa recent.

Dupa o singura functie plang, respectiv programarea serialelor. Nu imi apare catusi de putin optiunea...

Cam asa sta bateria la utilizare normala... 3g/wifi pornite toata ziua, desigur. Am observat acum cateva ore optiunea battery saving pentru locatie si sper ca asta este motivul pentru care sta atat de mult deschis Google Play Services... Puteti verifica daca si la voi sta la fel deschis?

Mai il iau la puricat si vad unde ajung

Cat ai avut Screen Time On?
Ciudat de mult consuma Google Play-ul acela... ai prea multe sync-uri sau ai descarcat tone de apps?

Vezi ca pt. a mai reduce din Google Play stuff ai 2 chestii: 1. sa mai scoti din sync-uri la care nu ai nevoie (de exp. eu setasem doar pt. emails) 2. sa dezactivezi ad-urile cu location awarness si ce mai are google setat pt. Location services.

Totodata, recomand root si instalarea unui anti banner... Makes Google really free (as it should)!

Screen time 1h58. Sync-urile le am activate pe toate, dar asa au fost si pe 4.3 si pe 4.2.2 si nu era atat de consumator... Nu am descarcat azi aplicatii, doar browsing pe facebook, chrome sau telefoane si sms-uri.

Momentan am lasat doar pentru mail, vedem maine cum evolueaza, poate am timp sa ma uit pe ele sa vad si care sunt utile (contactele, de exemplu, e util sa le salveze el... dar as vrea sa faca asta de fiecare data cand adaug un contac nou (rar) si nu la fiecare 10 minute).

Din pacate Google a uitat ca mai are un Nexus device pe numele sau "Nexus 7 Cellular". Nici pana in ziua de azi nu a primit update... Deja ma intreb care e rostul de a mai avea un Nexus, cand gasesti mai repede update-uri pt. device-uri care nu sunt de la Google...

Well, legat de problema asta, MonkY, am mai aflat ceva info. Update-ul a fost distribuit pe Nexus 7 (tte variantele) si 10, incepand cu america, apoi alte tari. Totusi, a fost oprit acum ceva timp si cu ocazia update-ului bugfix descris mai sus a reinceput distribuirea, in varianta corectata.

In momentul de fata se distrbuie pe TOATE dispozitivele Nexus compatibile, OTA. Cum este o distribuire graduala, nu simultana (vezi Apple), probabil vom mai astepta putin pana ajunge in Romania.

Cei care au versiunea KRT16O vor avea si ei un update disponibil.

Tocmai am primit alerta de update pe Nex 4 pentru krt16s, deci sigur si dispozitivele voastre trebuie sa fi primit/fie pe lista.

Am primit și eu update-ul (KRT16S), Nexus 7 3G 2012. Parca se mișcă mai bine.

Sper sa aducă și Samsung mai repede update pe S3, încă sunt la 4.1.....

Se pare ca 4.3 ar trebui sa sosească pe S3 în perioada asta.

AndyZ: ai testat si ART? Cum sta la viteza si compatibilitate pe Nexus 7?

N-am testat ART, abia acum am citit un pic despre el si trebuie sa-mi bag un pic nasul prin setari sa vad cum il pot activa.

Am primit si eu aseara OTA 4.4 pe N4. N-am activat ART (nici nu stiu cum, nu sunt un "hard-core" user . Ce pot sa spun e ca nu m-a impresionat foarte mult, nici nu sunt mari diferente, dialer-ul schimbat fiind cam singurul care iti sare in ochi.

ART se activeaza din developer mode. Eu nu am simtit diferente folosindu-l, doar unele aplicatii care nu mai functionau.

Pe N7 2012 nu e ART. Am crezut ca nu îl găsesc eu, dar din ce am citit pe net nu a dat nimeni de opțiunea de activare.

Nu sunt doar diferente de performanta, ba chiar unii ar spune ca battery usage-ul e cel care a primit cel mai mare boost cu ART (vs Dalvik):

Battery life is the biggest difference I see with ART, which is something that should make any smartphone user happy. In our battery tests with the Nexus 5, I found that the phone was capable of getting you through a whole day as long as you only had the screen on for about three and a half hours total. This isn’t bad, but it’s also not great. With ART running I found that the screen on experience is still very much the same. If you’ve got more than three hours of screen on time, there’s a good chance your phone is almost dead. The difference is in how the phone consumes battery in an idle state. With ART running, the Nexus 5 could easily go a full 24 hours of idling and performing casual tasks, while with Dalvik running that same workload would only get the phone to 17 or 18 hours.

Or sa spuna multi ca iar compar cu iOS... dar de-abia cu ART incepe si Android sa treaca la viteza aplicatiilor compilate nativ, si nu interpretate "on the fly":

Google knows all this about Dalvik, of course, which is why it’s been working on its replacement — Android Runtime (ART) — for more than two years. An early version of ART is included with Android 4.4 and can be enabled in Settings > Developer Options > Select Runtime.

ART straddles an interesting mid-ground between compiled and interpreted code, called ahead-of-time (AOT) compilation. Currently with Android apps, they are interpreted at runtime (using the JIT), every time you open them up. This is slow. (iOS apps, by comparison, are compiled native code, which is much faster.) With ART enabled, each Android app is compiled to native code when you install it. Then, when it’s time to run the app, it performs with all the alacrity of a native app.

It obviously takes some time to perform the AOT compilation at install time, but the long-term gains from apps that load and run faster will easily make up for it. You probably won’t even notice the AOT compilation of small apps; but for larger apps, we’re talking about a noticeable delay. If you switch an existing device from Dalvik to ART, you’re talking about a wait time of a few minutes while Android performs AOT for all your installed apps.

The main advantage of ART is that it allows Android developers to continue writing the exact same code, and having their apps work across a wide range of hardware specs and form factors — but now their apps will now run significantly faster, feel more responsive, and your device’s battery life should improve. Early testing indicates that ART is twice as fast as Dalvik. ART’s compiled code should also perform more consistently than JIT Dalvik, too, reducing UI latency and stuttering. The biggest gains will probably be for computationally intensive apps, such as photo and video editors, but if this early build of ART is anything to go by, there should be significant improvements across the board. ART could be change that finally makes Android as responsive and snappy feeling as iOS.

4.4.1 incepe sa zboare OTA pentru toate dispozitivele.

O bataie de joc cu 4.4.1 asta. Dupa aproape o saptamana, tot nu l-am primit. Nici macar manual nu il pot instala pentru ca am alt build. Si oricum, in caz ca nu stiati, au inceput update la 4.4.2 pe alte dispozitive non-Nexus, dar eu pe Nexus 5, care trebuia sa fie primul, nu am primit nimic.

Asta ti-e cu update-urile Android. La Apple macar le are toata lumea, dar absolut toata lumea, in aceasi zi si chiar daca merge mai greu, e acolo. Eu acum stau ca prostul si astept sa il primesc.

Problema la Google e ca nu anunta... nici ca incepe nici ca se opreste. Si de 4.4.1 si de 4.4.2 am aflat ca incep sa fie trimise... de pe reddit.

Daca cei de la G observa un bug, opresc trimiterea pe toate dispozitivele pana dau drumul la versiunea imbunatatita... dar nu anunta oprirea asta decat dupa

Incearca sa dai clear data la "google Services Framework" , aprinde wireless-ul si incearca ! Mie asa mi-a mers , nu am primit updateul a trebui sa fac artificiul asta dupa 2 zile de asteptare.
