Bethesda Softworks announces Prey 2

Bethesda Softworks today announced that Prey 2, the sequel to the popular 2006 game, is scheduled for release in 2012 and will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Games for Windows. First details on the game will be revealed in the May issue of PSM3.

Prey 2 is being developed by Human Head Studios, the studio that created Prey, the original, award-winning game. Prey 2 is being built on the cutting edge id tech engine from id Software.

"We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2.” said Chris Rhinehart, project lead. Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. Bethesda: Prey 2 not being made with id Tech 5 | VG247

The sequel was announced yesterday by the company for PC, 360 and PS3, with the press release confirming the game would be made using “the cutting edge id tech engine from id Software.”

But Hines has told IGN that it’s not using the latest version of the tech that’s currently being used by id for RAGE.

“This game has been in development for quite a while and id Tech 5 is still in progress (until Rage ships, and probably even after). So it really wasn’t an option,” he told the site.

Previously, id had licensed out id tech to licensees when it was an independent entity. But after being bought by Bethesda parent ZeniMax in 2009, id CEO Todd Hollenshead confirmed at QuakeCon last August that the engine would now be used within the Bethesda group, including games just being published by the company.

Game’s out in 2012.

In Prey 2, a source close to the game tells Kotaku, players will take on the role of a federal air marshal who is aboard the commercial airliner seen crashing in the spaceship early on in the original game. Prey 2 takes place during the same time frame as the original, but with this different perspective, we're told.

Prey 2 follows the air marshal as he makes his way through the same ship, fighting off different warring alien factions with his pistol until an alien captures him. After that opening, used to tie the two games together, the game jumps forward, we're told, to a seedy alien planet that sounds a bit like the future Earth of Blade Runner. This is where the game really opens up, revealing the marshal as the only human on an alien planet working as a bounty hunter.
The game is meant to be an open world title with multiple ways to complete objectives, but at its heart it is still a first-person shooter, we're told.

Wow, o schimbare destul de majora. Sa speram ca e in bine, nu stiu daca va mai fi aceeasi atmosfera cu un open-world pe planeta extraterestra...

Ia sa vedem, poate daca tot au pus air marshall, sa aiba arme realiste de call of crap si maxim 2 arme deodata, ca sa fie complet. Deasemenea, "daca" are multiplayer sa fie cu clase cu cate 2 arme fiecare, si sa nu uitam, no health pickups, cu health regen si tot tacamul. Daca se poate si un sergent sa iti tipe in ureche GO GO GO la fiecare 5 minute, atunci ar fi cireasa de pe tort.

Cred ca era mai interesant daca erai in rolul detinutului si nu a ofiterului sau ce-o fi.

Rolu detinutului? Ce detinut? Tu stii ce inseamna Air Marshall? E ala care sta in spate de tot si observa situatia din avion si incearca sa previna o deturnare de avion sau alte neplaceri.
