Reagan activates the Black Ops team, including a mix of old and new characters, to uncover Perseus, an elusive Soviet agent who threatens the foundations of democracy. In real life, Perseus is believed to be a Soviet spy who breached the Manhattan Project and gave the U.S.S.R. America’s nuclear secrets. Their identity was never learned. This game appears to be all about solving that puzzle and filling that gap in history. [...]

We saw gameplay for “Cold War” in which players infiltrate a Russian embassy undercover as a double agent, picking dialogue paths and nonlethal ways to navigate tense social situations, moving around the complex while ticking off various objectives, all before descending into a classic “Call of Duty” shootout.

“Cold War” seems to expand on this even more with branching story paths, promising multiple endings. Bunting would not say how many, and also didn’t want to promise a plethora of endings. Beyond that, Bunting also promised that “Black Ops” will keep the series identity of being the hallucinatory, experimental brother of the “Modern Warfare” series. They showed off a part of a mission where the team returns to Vietnam, the setting of the very first “Black Ops” mission, where they discover a secret about what happened then, and how it ties the “Perseus” mystery that drives this game. [...]

The series also moves us back to a silent protagonist role, one that can be customized to a degree. Players can pick between three genders: male, female or “classified.” The “classified” classification is meant for anyone who might be non-binary or doesn’t want to identify a gender. The “classified” designation is also applicable to other fields in the bio form as well. The thinking from the developers is that rather than forcing players into a decision they don’t want to make, people will appreciate the feeling of being shrouded in mystery and letting their imagination define their character. The developers also rerecorded dialogue to use them/they pronouns for the “classified” gender. Other character options include incidental background details that don’t affect gameplay, like place of birth, and your military background. [...]

    Ceva important: cross-play cross-gen si cross-progression:

Not much is yet known about Black Ops Cold War’s various multiplayer changes, but Activision did confirm a number of details regarding how progression and cross-platform play will work. For one, the game will feature cross-play not just across platforms as last year’s installment first introduced, but across generations, too. That means players on Xbox One should be able to play with those on PS5, and players on Xbox Series X should be able to play with those on PS4 (as well as all the other various combinations involved).

There will of course be a seasonal battle pass, like most shooters and battle royale games now have. But a unique benefit for Black Ops Cold War will be shared progression with Warzone and the ability to keep Modern Warfare content, like skins (or “operators” in COD parlance) and weapon blueprints, when you transition your account over to the new game. That’s a huge plus for players that invest heavily in each new COD installment only to have to abandon those unlockable items and other cosmetics when a new game rolls around the following fall. A full multiplayer reveal is scheduled for September 9th, Activision says.

And, finally, Treyarch and Raven are promising a return of Zombies, the massively popular COD horde mode that first arrived with Treyarch’s World of War in 2008. Neither the studios nor Activision is sharing anything substantial about the Zombies mode today, with plans to reveal more about it at a later date closer to release.

    WARZONE
Warzone is the most important new variable Activision and its studios have to contend with with the launch of a new COD game this fall. The publisher has promised Warzone would continue to live on and incorporate new features and content from new COD entries well into the future, and it’s imperative Activision get this right if it wants Warzone to continue being a hugely successful pillar of the franchise.

Activision isn’t yet sharing how Warzone will remain playable both for free-to-play players, Modern Warfare ones, and those who buy the new Black Ops Cold War. But the company is promising that the battle royale, which exists as a standalone title and as a separate mode with the current main COD game, will not drop support for any current platform.

At some point in the future, Warzone may drop certain features that Modern Warfare has that Black Ops Cold War doesn’t, and it’s going to be fascinating to see how the developers manage to thread the needle when it comes to maintaining player bases across multiple games, platforms, and console generations. Activision is also promising “more information on Black Ops Cold War and Warzone” at a later date. [...]

    4K, 120hz, haptic feedback, 3D audio:

The solid-state drives (SSDs) with flash memory in the new consoles will have faster load times, and that means that the loading screens will be gone, with seamless transitions between cinematics and gameplay.

“We want to make sure that the framerate is responsive, and that it feels like there’s nothing on the technical side preventing you from having a good time,” Bunting said.

The game will feature a global illumination system that makes use of real-time ray tracing. That means the lighting and shadows will be accurate, with rays of light bouncing around a scene in a realistic manner. You’ll see the effects of this in things like Woods’ pickup truck (with the fictional brand name Bannerocks), which has a run-down look that feels like it’s from another era. You see duct tape, cracked vinyl, and a CB radio in the interior.

“With the power of the next-gen systems, we’ll be able to add even more detail and put even more love into everything we create,” said Katie Sabin, a vehicle artist at Raven Software.

Lighting director Alberto Noti of Raven said that the team aimed for greater photorealism than ever before. It captured imagery of assets from the 1980s. And they would use the capabilities of the next-generation consoles to display the imagery with HDR, 4K, and wide color gamuts. The Soviet world was gray, but the team injected pink, purple, red, and other primary colors to change up the visuals in different scenes. The aim was to create a 1980s look and feel in places like an arcade or a bar.

Was Noti blowing smoke? I couldn’t tell, because I was watching a video presentation, and I didn’t get to see the game in the same room with the developers. But Call of Duty has never been a disappointment with its visuals.

The game will also have improved 3D audio, so it’s easier to figure out where the sound is coming from in a 3D environment, said David Vonderhaar of Treyarch. That means it’s taking advantage of advances in audio tech for the next-gen consoles.

“We couldn’t be happier how this new adventure for the next generation expands the universe,” Bunting said.

I would like to play and see more of the game soon. This one looks like it could make a lot of Black Ops fans happy.

Nu cred ca va fi mare distanta intre lansari anyway (COD BOCW si XSX/PS5).

Activision is giving away 10,000 beta keys for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this weekend

Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Like previous entries, there will be a beta, which will be open to the public, but you can receive early access if you pre-order specific versions of the game. However, there’s another way to get early access without spending any money: Activision is giving away 10,000 beta keys this weekend.

This weekend, the Call of Duty League will be holding its first championship. On Sunday, August 30th at 4PM ET, the publisher will give away early access beta keys to viewers watching the stream on the league’s official website.

ACTIVISION HAS NOT SAID WHEN IT WILL HOLD THE BETA
If you want to be eligible for the giveaway, you’ll need to sign up or log into your Activision account and link it with the official Call of Duty League website or companion app. Then you’ll have to select if you want to play the beta on PC, PS4, or Xbox One.

Digital keys for early access to the open beta are not the only thing you can snag this weekend, either. On Saturday, players can also watch the stream for a chance to win a code for the CDL Champs 2020 Pack, which includes Call of Duty League designs for several in-game items including virtual graffiti sprays and custom weapon designs. If you tune in for at least 30 minutes at any point during the two-day event, you can receive a code for a virtual knife with the Call of Duty League logo printed on the blade, which can be used in Modern Warfare and Warzone.

Activision has not said when it will hold the beta, but Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to launch on November 13th, meaning you shouldn’t have long to wait.

Este o chestie de semantica acolo, in articolul original oricum scria despre refresh rate, nu despre FPSuri, si este o distinctie intre cele doua.

With next-generation consoles, the game will play at 4K resolution and refresh rates at 120hz
