As the PlayStation 2 nears the tenth anniversary of its U.S. release, Sony announced today that it will be offering a limited edition bundle including the system and Disney Interactive's Toy Story 3 game.
The bundle, which will be available in the U.S. starting October 31, will retail for a suggested price of $99, the same price currently suggested for the system without a bundled game.
First released in Japan in March 2000 and brought stateside on October 26, 2000, the PlayStation 2 claims over 2,000 software titles and sales of over 146 million units worldwide.
The system's continuous production run in the United States now rivals that of the wildly successful Nintendo Entertainment System, which was manufactured for the U.S. market from 1985 until 1995.
Sony has repeatedly claimed a similar ten-year product strategy for its PlayStation 3, released in the U.S. in late 2006. "We do not have a planned obsolescence strategy," Sony Marketing VP Scott Steinberg said in a 2008 interview with Gamasutra.
Toy Story 3 saw strong sales in the UK, topping the region's cross-platform sales charts for three weeks this summer. The Nintendo DS version of the game premiered in 7th place on NPD's June U.S. sales chart, with the Wii version appearing in 19th place.

The console celebrates its tenth birthday in the country today; it launched in America on Thursday, October 26, 2000.
1UP has footage of the US launch from the old PlayStation Underground subcription service.
The EU anniversary isn�t far off; the machine celebrates its tenth birthday next month.
PS2 turned ten earlier this year in Japan. It released back in March 2000.
Sa traiasca consola celor de la sony
. Cea mai buna consola a lor daca mai intrebi pe mine (sau daca ma intrebi pe mine cea mai buna consola ever
) . Inventia asta a scris istoria gaming-ului . Pe langa ca s-a vandut foarte bine , a fost si prima consola care sa folosesasca DVD-uri , motion controllere (Eye Toy ) , a continuat zeci de serii renumite si a inceput cateva care au devenit legende (GoW si Killzone fiind doar cateva dintre ele ) . Asa ca putem spune cu totii : " La multi ani PS2 ! "
Ps2 Defect? Se comporta ciudat!
In primul rand salut tuturor, sunt nou in aceasta comunitate si sunt incantat sa va fiu alaturi. Am citit toate posturile dupa acest forum si am vazut ca Donley este jupan, asa ca vas cere un sfat. Sunt posesorul a 2 console Ps2 Model 39004, o consola este nemodata si merge impecabil cu exceptia faptului ca mi s-a blocat de vreo 3 ori ruland un joc original si anume JAKX, cu aceasta consola sunt offtopic, dar mai am o consola modat cu chip intern Matrix V 1.93 care imi da ceva batai de cap... Cand o pornesc scrisul "Browse" si urmatorul dupa se vede blurat, iar la aceasta consola nu se incadreaza perfect imaginea pe lcd (mentionez ca am un lcd de 107 cm) si anume se vede imaginea mai jos... in jocuri este foarte incomod... am atasat si o poza pentru a vedea despre ce este vorba... am o cunostinta care se pricepe pe partea hardware si imi poate schimba in ea condesatori daca este cazul... As putea sa inlocuiesc placa de alimentare dupa unul pe altul, dar am preferat sa apelez la dvs inainte de a face orice interventie, aveti cumva vreo parere, sugestie despre acest fenomen? multumesc tuturor!

Buna, am un ps2 fat care citeste stickul usb, iar pritenul meu are unul slim al lui nu citeste, ambele au cip de ce?
E legat de tipul modchjp-ului ce e instalat pe consola.
Incearca sa intri in meniul modchipului (reset la consola in timp ce tii apasate tastele triunghi si cerc - simultan), si in meniul de but al modchipului dezactiveaza instructiunea Macrovizion (pune OFF la ea). Astfel la majoritatea modelelor de Modbo merge USB-ul cu functia dezactivata, iar la Matrix nu merge deloc rulat pe USB jocuri (nici cu ea dezactivata).

Gran Turismo isn’t the only Sony legend we’re remembering today.
PlayStation 2 celebrates its tenth European birthday today, having launched in Europe on Friday, November 24, 2000.
Japan celebrated the machine’s tenth anniversary in March, with the US following suit last month.
The PS2 era played host to sequels of Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and more, but the console was best noted for the evolution of Grand Theft Auto with GTA III.
Two more games in the series – Vice City in 2002 and San Andreas in 2004 – were timed PS2 exclusives, the latter being the biggest-selling game on the platform with just under 20 million units sold as of February last year.
PS2’s slim form-factor released in 2004.
Ten years on the platform is still alive, with both games and hardware bundles still releasing. Those David Lynch ads clearly worked.
