League of Legends introduces Honor system to reinforce good behaviour | VG247
Although players have long been able to report bad-mannered or otherwise unpleasant opponents and teammates, there’s been no way to acknowledge friendly and skilled summoners until now.
Using the Honor system players will first be able to award a thumbs up to worthy friends and foes, and then classify the Honor sent as Friendly, Helpful, Teamwork or Honorable Opponent.
Although Honor won’t have any material reward – it can’t be traded or otherwise exchanged – Riot is apparently considering some sort of acknpowledgement of those who gather significant amounts of it.
They say that positive reinforcement works better than punishment; let’s hope League of Legends becomes a more welcoming place as a result. For more information, visit the League of Legends Honor page.
League of Legends Playoffs cheats fined $30,000 | VG247
imi plac e comentul unui user: "Cheat, win only 80% of the prize" . si sincer si mie mi se pare mult prea putin...asa daca sunt sanctionati doar cu 20% poate se gandesc ca e mai rentabil sa riste inca o tura si sa ajunga in finale sau cevaRiot investigated all five incidents and detailed its findings on the MOBA’s forum.
The developer concluded that team Azubu Frost did glance at the main screen and check its opponent’s minimap, and that it modified its play based on this information.
The team has been fined $30,000, which is 20% of what it has won so far, which will be donated to a charity in Korea, as per Riot’s rules.
The match’s outcome is not believed to have been directly determined by the cheating, so the result has been allowed to stand.
Of the four other incidents, Riot found three guilty of “unsportsmanlike” behaviour, but as the players involved didn’t take action based on knowledge so gleaned, Riot chose to issue warnings and leave it at that. The final incident is believed to have been a response to glare issues.
The playoffs were also marred by technical issues; some matches have been rescheduled.
Thanks, Kotaku.
League of Legends hits 32 million players, ‘as big as StarCraft in Korea’ | VG247
PC Gamer reports that Riot’s statistic infographic makes for impressive reading, with over 70 million summoner names created by players, 32 million monthly active players, 12 million players a day, and more. Check out the document here.
PC Gamer also notes that the last time Riot Games released LoL stats into the wild was in November 2011, when the game had 11 million monthly active players, marking a significant leap in player base since then.
Speaking with the site, LoL pro RapidStar stated that, “League of Legends is as big as Starcraft now [in Korea]“, adding that it is,”still new and still growing and only going to get better.”
League of Legends Hallowe’en update adds The Shadow Isles | VG247
The upcoming League of Legends patch adds in something called The Shadow Isles; it’s not clear whether this is a whole new map or a holiday skin for an existing location.
Riot is urging summoners to swear their allegiance to the new location, by means of a handful of new skins for existing characters – Headless Hecarim, Haunted Maokai and Underworld Twisted Fate. Players are advised to keep an eye out for new Harrowing-themed character skins, something called “ward skins” and summoner icons.
Perhaps most importantly, the update brings an all new champion. Elise the Spider Queen was first conceived three years ago but Riot notes her unique abilities made her “challenging” to realise. Elise is able to switch between spider and human forms, and has a swathe of skills in either body – get all the details here.
The patch is expected on October 31.
