VG247 Blog Archive “Chaos” canned Portal 2 competitive multiplayer
oh man i wanted a 16 player portal deathmatch . Se pare ca trebuie sa ne multumim doar cu co-op-ul oferit de jocValve tried putting competitive multiplayer into Portal 2, but ditched it due to the ensuing chaos.
Along with co-op, [we had] the idea of sort of a competitive Portal multiplayer, game writer Erik Wolpaw told 1UP.
We went down that path, actually, for a little while and had something up and running. The best way to describe it is sort of speedball meets Portal. You know, a sports analog. And it quickly became apparent that while its fun for about two seconds to drop portals under people and things like that, it quickly just devolves into pure chaos.
It lost a lot of the stuff that was really entertaining about Portal, which was puzzle-solving. Cooperative puzzle-solving was just a much more rewarding path.
Portal 2 will include two-player co-op when it releases next February.
Can you imagine Portal DeathMatch with 16 players? Someone should mod it.
VG247 Blog Archive Portal 2 delayed into April 2011
Valve has announced Portal 2 will be delayed into April.
The week of April 18 to be exact.
According to Valve, the delay marks not only the “the shortest delay in Valve’s proud tradition of delays”, but it represents “the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time”.
“Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date,” says Valve.
Always cryptic. Always funny. Always delayed.
At least it’s still coming.
Portal 2 was originally slated for release on Mac, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on February 9.

Lombardi admits that one planned feature wasn’t ready in time. “We’re using the cloud so that you can save to Steam from your PS3, but we’re not involved enough to say that you can pick up your progress on the PC using your PS3 save – we ran out of time.
“It’s achievable, but it’s hard, so next time!”
