    Adios THQ & Goodbye Darksiders!

    Sincer, in curand cred ca o sa refuz sa mai scriu vesti proaste. Studiouri inchise, lanturi intregi de magazine in faliment, nume grele care dispar subit... Doar ce vorbeam despre Atari ieri, si iata ca astazi mai cade un nume mare. De data aceasta: THQ. Toti stiam de problemele financiare avute, insa am tot sperat ca putem da o mana de ajutor (vezi threadul acesta)... in plus ultimele titluri de la THQ au fost chiar ok chiar si din punct de vedere al vanzarilor. Din pacate insa, astazi... dupa o licitatie de mai bine de 22 de ore, asset-urile THQ au fost cumparate de diverse studiouri.

    Si aici vine marea mea suparare. Cum Dzeu au venit firme precum Ubisoft, SEGA si Crytek sa cumpere IP-uri gen South Park: The Stick of Truth sau Homefront si Red Faction... si sa nu vrea nimeni sa cumpere Darksiders (Vigil Games)!?! Sa-i ia naiba cu banii lor cu tot! Ubisoft a cazut maxim in ochii mei din acest moment. De cate ori au avut ocazia sa-si mai spele pacatele, au dat-o din nou cu nuca in perete.

    Nu mai inteleg nimic din lumea asta in care traim. Daca facem un calcul simplist... s-au vandut peste 2.5 milioane de exemplare (Darksiders I si Darksiders II). La un profit minim de 10 USD, si automat am vorbi de 25 milioane de dolari. Si cu toate acestea, participantii la licitatie nu au oferit nici macar 500.000 de dolari. Dar in schimb Ubisoft a oferit si cumparat cu 3.26 milioane de dolari "renumitul" South Park: The Stick of Truth. Poate asa e mai bine... sa scoata in continuare jocuri tampite, decat ceva cu un story serios si cu caractere deosebite.

    Sa nu ma intelegeti gresit... n-am nimic impotriva South Park-ului... doar sunt dezgustat de situatie. Printr-o comparatie mica, Homefront e un joc mediocru, cu nota 70 pe metacritic. Darksiders are 81-85... Homefront se vinde si va mai exista ca titlu, Darksiders nu si Vigil Games se inchid complet.

    Anyway, sorry... sunt suparat. Asa ca ma opresc aici si listez mai jos cine ce a cumparat din IP-urile si studiourile detinute de THQ. Have a good night!

    To purchase Relic (developer of Warhammer 40K and Company of Heroes 2) for $26.6 million. (Interestingly, Bethesda Softworks owner Zenimax media came just short of winning this portion with a $26.3 million bid.)

    Koch Media
    To purchase Volition (developer of the Saints Row and Red Faction games) for about $22.3 million.
    To purchase the Metro franchise license for nearly $5.9 million.

    Crytek
    To purchase the Homefront license for $544,218.

    Take 2
    To purchase Evolve (a turtle Rock Studios project trademarked last year) for about $10.9 million.

    Ubisoft
    To purchase THQ Montreal (developer of the upcoming 1666, among others) for $2.5 million
    To purchase the license to South Park: The Stick of Truth for about $3.26 million (though South Park Studios is putting up some legal argument over that part of the sale)

    There was a shimmer on a slither of hope, that at one point, there'd be a Darksiders III: 4 Player Co-Op; It rode off into the sunset today.

    This makes it even sadder.

    se pare ca nici macar nici banii de la Humble Bundle nu i-au putut salva (desi era vorba de "doar" 5 milioane de dolari). Desi nu prea am jucat multe jocuri de la acestia (cu exceptia catorva titluri Warhammer 40k pe PC), totusi realizez ca acest studio avea foarte mult potential si foarte multi oameni extrem de dedicati si talentati. Pacat... nici nu vreau sa stiu ce alt studio urmeaza

    Din cate stiu Homefront 2 se afla deja in productie la Crytek.Era de asteptat ca ei sa cumpere licenta Homefront.Imi pare bine ca franciza Metro a fost salvata,dar putea ajunge in maini mai bune...si nu pot intelege cum niciun studio mare nu a fost interesat de Darksiders. Am mai pierdut un studio cu potential si o super franciza.

    Cei de la Platinum Games au spus că vor să salveze seria Darksiders, dar rămâne de văzut.

    Darksiders 2 a iesit anul trecut in August. Cu problemele pe care le avea THQ cu siguranta nici nu au inceput deja etapele de preproductie pentru un sequel.
    South Park Stick of Truth e finisat. In aceasta perioada ar trebui sa fie la certificarile Microsoft/Sony pentru a intra in productia si distributia discurilor. Probabil va mai intarzia putin pentru o "amprenta" Ubisoft. Mie de asta imi e teama mai mult.

    In schimb, e absolut de inteles ce s-a intamplat. Toate jocurile/francizele oferite la licitatie contin produse aproape gata sau in curs de dezvoltare.
    Pentru Darksiders 3 nu s-a scris nici o linie de cod. Cu toate ca ma intristeaza vestea, ce s-a intamplat la licitatie e absolut normal si nu am cum sa port pica vreunui publisher ca nu a cumparat promisiuni pe care nu si le poate asuma pentru a le duce pana la capat.

    We now have the answers we’ve been seeking through our financial restructuring and Chapter 11 case. While much will be written, here are the facts of the bids and auction that occurred:

    Yesterday morning, we received a competing bid for the operating business, along with Clearlake’s offer, and numerous offers for separate assets. During an auction process that lasted over 22 hours, the final conclusion was that the separate-asset bids would net more than a single buyer for the majority of the company. Shortly, we will, present the results to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, which must concur with our assessment.

    The proposed sales of multiple assets

    ● Sega agreed to purchase Relic
    ● Koch Media agreed to purchase Volition and Metro
    ● Crytek agreed to purchase Homefront
    ● Take 2 agreed purchase Evolve
    ● Ubisoft agreed to purchase Montreal and South Park

    We expect these sales to close this week.

    Some assets, including our publishing businesses and Vigil, along with some other intellectual properties are not included in the sale agreements. They will remain part of the Chapter 11 case. We will make every effort to find appropriate buyers, if possible.

    What this means for employees

    We expect that most employees of the entities included in the sale will be offered employment by the new owners. However, we cannot say what these owners may intend, and there will likely be some positions that will not be needed under the new ownership. You should receive notice this week or early next week if the new owners intend to extend employment to you. Please note that the terms of your new employment, including pay and benefits, may be different from the current terms of your employment with THQ.

    If you are an employee of an entity that is not included in the sale, we regret that your position will end. A small number of our headquarters staff will continue to be employed by THQ beyond January 25 to assist with the transition. THQ has sufficient resources to pay these employees for work going forward, and we will be contacting these employees immediately to ensure their continued employment during this transition period. We are requesting the ability to offer certain severance pay to minimize disruption for employees of non-included entities as they determine the next steps in their careers.

    We know you will have many questions about this news. We’ll be meeting tomorrow when we return to talk through this announcement and to answer any questions you have. You will receive a benefits fact sheet and FAQs with answers to some questions that may be on your mind. Please review these materials closely.

    A personal note

    The work that you all have done as part of the THQ family is imaginative, creative, artistic and highly valued by our loyal gamers. We are proud of what we have accomplished despite today’s outcome.

    It has been our privilege to work alongside the entire THQ team. While the company will cease to exist, we are heartened that the majority of our studios and games will continue under new ownership. We were hoping that the entire company would remain intact, but we expect to hear good news from each of the separate entities that will be operating as part of new organizations.

    For those THQ employees who are part of entities that are not included in the sale, we are confident that the talent you have displayed as part of THQ will be recognized as you take the next steps in your career.

    My name is Ben Cureton, and I was the Lead Combat Designer at Vigil Games. I'm sitting at my desk among... what appears to be a warzone. The walls look bare. It's quiet.

    The seats are empty.

    We've all been on edge for the past couple months... and more so, the last couple weeks. I mean, I'm sure you can imagine what it's like to wonder if you will have a job tomorrow. Most of us here joked about it just to keep the mood light, but we all knew what could happen. Now I look around and I realize... it did happen.

    Am I sad? Well yea. I've been in this industry for 20 years. Seriously. Two decades. I've been laid off more than once. It sucks every time. But am I sad I don't have a job? Not really... I'm sure I'll get another one eventually. I'm sad because it won't be THIS job. It won't be at Vigil. That's why I'm sad. The people I waged war with are no longer together. The people that I bled with, vented with, argued with (often times LOUDLY), and kicked back with... these people will never be together again in the same combination.

    Not that it was perfect. But what is perfect? Did I like coming to work? Yes. Was I proud of the work that I did? Yes. More importantly, was I proud of the work that WE did? Absolutely. I knew, without a shadow of the doubt, that the project we were working on (Codenamed: Crawler) was going to blow people away. In fact, it DID blow people away. We did, in TWO months, what many companies haven't done in a year. The pride of knowing that no one was doing anything like us was so satisfying, it kept us coming to work and giving 100% every single day, even through the dark times.

    ... so maybe you can imagine what it feels like when you read the list of who bought what only to discover your name is not on the list. Why? Did we do something wrong? Were we not good enough? Were we not worth 'anything?' Imagine that.

    Vigil was filled with people that I would put up against the best in the industry. People that made my work better, people that made me a better designer, and people that made me a better person. And now they are gone.

    Their seats are empty.

    It's OK, though. I guess this post makes it sound a bit melodramatic. Seriously... if you work in the video game industry you have to be resilient. Doing what you love often comes with a price - anyone who has been around for a while can tell you that. Today, that price has been paid. That being said, I'd still never dissuade anyone from following their dreams if their dream is to make video games. While it's not as romantic as it sounds, it's sure a hell of a lot of fun.

    So don't cry for the people at Vigil. We made games for game players. I have no Horror stories from working here... only Honor stories. Through both praise and critiques alike, our goal was always to make a product as if we, ourselves, were the end-user. We may have gotten pushed and pulled in certain directions by forces out of our control, we were always in it to make games for game players. And that's what we did.

    I can only hope that those spared from the other companies remain employed long into the future. There is not much worse than false hope, and these people deserve to continue making great games. You may not know their names, but they exist, and they bleed, sweat, and cry for your entertainment. I mean that honestly, with no negativity. They do it... no, WE do it... because we want you to have a good time.

    In closing, I can only say thank you to the fans of Vigil games. Your support means more than you can imagine. Your feedback (both positive and negative) gave us long-lasting insight that we will all take with us, wherever we may go. You are the reason we made Darksiders 1 &2... and you are the reason we will continue to make games.

    And with that... my seat is empty.

    The executive director and producer of Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba, tweeted his interest in buying THQ's Darksiders today after learning that no one made a bid for the franchise during THQ's auction today.

    In a tweet he wrote today, the boss of the studio behind Bayonetta, Vanquish and the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance said (in Japanese): "Oh man in THQ's big sale it looks like nobody's bought Darksiders ... I'd love to buy that (if it was cheap)."

    Avand in vedere ca SEGA mai detine si franciza Total War, faptul ca a cumparat Relic nu poate fi decat un lucru imbucurator pentru seria CoH (best strategy game imo).

    Pe langa Darksiders a ramas pe langa si UFC-ul care mie mi-a placut cel mai bun kick ass game.

    Impresionant email-ul lui Ben Cureton... si totodata foarte realist! Chiar ma gandeam... Darksiders ar sta foarte bine in portfoliul Capcom, nu la Ubisoft sau Electronic Arts
    Btw, daca Sega a cumparat Relic, sa inteleg ca a luat si licenta la Homeworld? Pentru ca nu vad nimic legat de asta...

    Chiar acum cateva zile am terminat Darksiders 2 si chiar eram incantat sa aud stiri despre aparitia unui sequal . Sadly we were all dissapointed . The world is a sad place ...

    OMG, nu-mi vine sa cred, francize promitatoare se duc dreq...primul darksiders e printre jocurile mele favorite de xbox, pana la aparitia dark souls in darksiders am bagat cele mai multe ore de joc... mi-ar placea sa preia franciza Platinum, imi place la nebunie Bayonetta si Vanquish de la ei...

    Este interesant faptul ca bunurile THQ, o comapnie americana, in mare parte au ajuns ba la europeni (Koch, Ubisoft, Crytek), ba la japonezi (SEGA).

    Asta mă tot întreb şi eu, de mult vreau să văd un Homeworld 3 făcut de Relic, dar am impresia că I.P.-ul se află la Vivendi nu la Relic.
