We don't know yet what Rockstar has planned for the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series but one of the original creators of the franchise says that freedom and good stories are something that the series will always try to deliver.

Speaking to Gamespot Dan Houser, who is one of the two brothers who have created the Grand Theft Auto series, said, We thought it could be magical. Not the Holy Grail, but this thing that was 3D but open and expansive, combining elements of hardcore action, driving, adventuring--all these genres.

Initially the team which created the game was unsure whether it would be a hit, seeing how different it is from everything else that was offered at the same time.

Houser added, A good story is one that moves you through the experience well. Yes, you want clever plots and clever twists and clever this, that, and the other. For a game like this, we needed something that moved you around the map well and kept you engaged and is a constant series of mini-stories.

Speaking directly about Grand Theft Auto III, which made the move to three dimensional gameplay, Houser also said that the level of violence for the game was a by-product of the level of freedom that was offered to players.

GTA has been widely blamed for violent acts committed by teenagers in recent years, although no clear causal links were made between the video game and a propensity towards violence.

Rockstar has not announced any plans for Grand Theft Auto V, although analysts are saying that the team will officially unveil the game at the 2012 edition of E3, with the launch set for next year.

Since the fourth game in the year launched rumors have been swirling around the fact that Rockstar was scouting American cities in order to build their new game around their virtual representations.
