Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC close to complete | VG247

Valve still doesn’t have a release date for the next batch of Left 4 Dead 2 DLC, but it has nearly finished it.

“Now that we have a solid version of the maps (some minor changes still coming), we are focused on the DLC and getting some pesky bugs out of the shipping version. As soon as we have a release date we will let you know,” an updated on the Left 4 Dead blog revealed.

The DLC pack includes the Cold Stream, Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Dead Air, Death Toll and No Mercy maps which are available as an open beta on Steam. The final release will also feature a large number of bug fixes.

Valve has made several updates on the DLC this year; in early January, the team was moving towards Xbox 360 certification; in February, Valve noted it was making “additional performance improvements” for the Xbox 360 version.

L4D2 DLC based on Cabin in the Woods was planned at one time | VG247

Speaking in an IAmA on Reddit, Goddard said if it weren’t for financial issues at MGM, it would have happened.

“We actually were going to do a downloadable L4D2 expansion pack, where you’d fight in the Cabin world, but then MGM went bankrupt so the delay squashed it,” he said. “But the people at Valve were still cool enough to let us use some of their monsters to fill the cubes in the background (I had a lot of cubes to fill.)

“By the way — the game was gonna be amazing. You were gonna be able to play in both the upstairs “Cabin in the Woods” world and the downstairs “facility” world with all the monsters.

“Believe me, I HATE all video games based on movies, they always suck, but porting Cabin into Left For Dead felt like the right fit. It pains me that it didn’t happen.”

That honestly sounds as though it would have been rather cool.

Left 4 Dead 2: user-created Back to School campaign available today | VG247

After three years in development, the fan-made Back to School campaign for Left 4 Dead 2 is finally available for download. You can head on over to the dev team’s ModDB page to pick it up for yourself now, but you should probably watch the kinda completely awesome trailer they’ve released for their work first.
“Back to School is a full featured Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 campaign. The storyline is not interfere with none of this games and offer completly new setting of Borden city, struggling to survive in an epidemic apocalypse alongside with original 4 heroes. They are getting a chance to save themselves, since USA marines are coming in town and not falling back this time. But during the battle apogee something goes terribly wrong and local school – the most safe place in city – turns out to be a death trap.”

Left 4 Dead 2 user-created campaign Warcelona available; L4D2 Workshop in test beta | VG247

Warcelona, the fan-made campaign for Left 4 Dead 2, is now available for download. The campaign’s four maps recreate the route between the Sant Roc church and the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona. As PC Gamer notes, installing the campaign is a bit “complex at the moment,” but all complexities for such content will be alleviated once the Left 4 Dead 2 Workshop beta has finished, and becomes available to the public. The Left 4 Dead 2 Workshop, currently in test beta, will be expanded into an invite only private beta soon. Valve has added the Steam Workshop created Helm’s Deep Reborn map to the official Left 4 Dead 2 servers, alongside an update which fixes an issue with dedicated servers and workshop content. The map, as you’ve already figured out, adds Helm’s Deep from Lord of the Rings to the zombie shooter. It sounds kookie enough to make me want to try it despite being horrible at L4D2. Left 4 Dead 2 Workshop adds Brütal Legend axe, Resident Evil 6 enemy teased | VG247

Thanks to a lovely teaser image linking to a Steam page by Capcom Unity this morning, I am now aware of two things: Valve is working on tutorials and examples of how to create content for the Left for Dead 2 Workshop using Bloodshots from Resident Evil 6; and The Brütal Legends Collection for Left for Dead 2 is available in the Workshop. So, instead of dispatching zombies with a projectile weapon, you can now use Eddie’s axe instead. Rock on. Hit up the links for more.
