+EA has been heavily promoting Battlefield 3 pre-orders over the past few months, offering a wide variety of incentives, from the Back To Karkand expansion pack, to select retailer-based pre-order bonuses. According to sales tracker VGChartz, Battlefield 3 has been pre-ordered almost 700,000 times, and those numbers are for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions alone. Taken the PC version into consideration, it wouldn�t be too far fetched to assume pre-order numbers have topped 1 million for Battlefield 3. Having said that, these figures should be taken with a grain of salt, as the numbers aren�t official � VGChartz makes their own estimates when it comes to sales and pre-order numbers.

According to a Reddit member, who works at a place where they manufacture Steelbook cases, Battlefield 3 will be shipped in these cases at select European retailers.
Furthermore, EA Singapore has released some promo images on Facebook of the Steelbook edition, which you can see in the gallery after the break. Also, the images confirm that Battlefield 3 will ship on two discs. It�s very likely that the Limited Edition retail version of Battlefield 3 will be shipping in these Steelbook cases. Battlefield games on PC have always had a strong dedicated server support, where anyone could rent and operate their own server. And much like the Battlefield games before it, Battlefield 3 will support both ranked and unranked servers, as DICE�s Mikael Kalms notes in a recent EA forum post. If you�re interested in renting your own BF3 server, here are a few bits of info, according to Kalms:
- There will be both ranked and unranked servers
- Ranked servers offer some freedom to server owners/admins to set the map, game type etc. Ranked servers will track player progression EAs master servers, much like in past Battlefield games.
- Unranked servers give the server owner/admin more freedom to select which weapons are available to players etc. The unranked server option is suited for tournaments because everyone has a level playing field (no ranks/unlocks). You cannot rank up or unlock new weapons on unranked servers.
- Ranked servers will be provided by select Ranked Server Providers (RSPs). The official list has yet to be released.
- Pricing is likely to be higher than Bad Company 2 server due to Battlefield 3 requiring �considerable more CPU power per player than Bad Company 2″.
- PunkBuster will be the anti-cheat system for Battlefield 3.
- Third party anti-cheat organizations like PBBans will be available, it�s up to the server owner if he wants to use them.
- Players won�t be able to create their own servers running on their own machines.
- No news yet on Battlerecorder or spectator mode.

New Battlefield 3 Interview
A new interview has surfaced that brings along with it some interesting information. The interviewee is Kevin O'Leary, EA's product manager. Kevin O'Leary helped us out last month as well. The interview discusses Battlefield 3's unmatched graphics, physics, sound, and destruction thanks to the Frostbite 2.0 engine. Battlefield 3 is stated to have five game modes with TDM being the new one. Most interesting is the statement that Battlefield 3's maps are playable in all modes. So a rush mode map can also be found in conquest and TDM. It will be interesting to see the Back To Karkand maps adapted to rush and TDM game modes. No beta information is revealed. Also noted is that Battlefield 3 is the "do it all" game. Meaning that you can play a run and gun match, or be tactful and guide your squad to a match victory, or bring rain from the skys as a helicopter pilot.
