Mass Effect 3 will get a single-player and multiplayer demo in January, 2012, with BioWare confirming that gamers will be able to get their hands on it either by redeeming the online pass for Battlefield 3, as well as through other ways, which have yet to be detailed.

Just as copies of Battlefield 3 are being launched in the wild and people are redeeming the online pass to access the multiplayer mode, many have reported a special message appearing after their redemption, saying that they'll also be able to access the Mass Effect 3 demo when it's going to be released.

BioWare quickly made the whole thing official, posting a comprehensive thread on its forums about the demo and how fans can get their hands on it.

"Mass Effect 3 will have a pre-release demo in January 2012," the studio said. "This demo will have both single player and multiplayer sections, giving fans a taste of what's to come on March 6, 2012. Be first to the front lines in the multiplayer section of the Mass Effect 3 demo! Redemption of the Online Pass for Battlefield 3 will unlock this early access.

"But rallying for war is just getting started - in late November / early December, BioWare will announce other ways for fans to engage the enemy with their friends online from day one!"

The demo will have the two aforementioned stages and be released worldwide, although platforms have yet to be confirmed. It's pretty safe to say, however, that it will appear on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, just like the full game.

Besides redeeming the online pass for Battlefield 3, players will be able to do other things in order to access the demo, either through early access before its release, like new BF3 owners, or when it's going to be officially deployed.

"There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) this will also be announced in late November or early December," BioWare added.

Mass Effect 3 is out on March 6, 2012, for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
