CD Projekt reported spending PLN 8.46 million ($2.23 million) on its "Help Me Refund" program, which included the cost of processing refund payments to customers around the world. When asked about how many copies of the game that equated to, an executive said it worked out to around 30,000 refund requests.

Update: A CD Projekt investor relations representative confirmed for GamesIndustry.biz that the 30,000 refunds figure only accounted for refunds facilitated by the company for customers who emailed them directly. It would not include refunds made by a number of retailers including Microsoft, Best Buy, and GameStop who relaxed their usual policies specifically for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies through the end of 2020 in total.

The company also reported that Cyberpunk 2077 had a total budget of PLN 1.2 billion ($316 million). More than half of the copies sold (56%) were on PC or Stadia, followed by PlayStation 4 (28%) and Xbox One (17%).

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a profitable disaster for developer CD Projekt, recouping its development cost in pre-orders and earning record-breaking profits for the company. This is despite the game’s infamously poor launch state, a lot of which can be chalked up to mismanagement—management who will nevertheless receive hefty bonuses.

A new report by , looking at the company’s latest earnings report, details that CEO Marcin Iwiński and co-CEO Adam Kiciński will take home some tidy bonuses of $6.3 million each. Cyberpunk director Adam Badowski will get $4.2 million.

Meanwhile, “Some employees told Bloomberg they will receive profit-sharing bonuses of about $5,000 to about $9,000, while other more senior employees said they will get closer to $15,000 or $20,000. Managers and directors will likely receive much higher bonuses.”

This is all part of the company’s standard bonus structure, which was uncoupled from the game’s review scores last year. 20% of the company’s annual earnings are devoted to bonuses, with half going to employees and half going to the board.

Four class action lawsuits brought against CD Projekt over Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch have been consolidated.

The Witcher developer confirmed on Tuesday that a lead plaintiff has been appointed and following this consolidation, all four lawsuits will now be subject to potential common court proceedings.

The action is in relation to Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch, centred around criticism of the game’s performance on last-gen consoles and Cyberpunk’s removal from the PlayStation Store, which saw CD Projekt’s share price fall by 15% on December 18.

The lawsuits include at least two class actions from some of its own shareholders, who allege that CD Projekt violated federal laws by misleading investors over the quality of Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles, consequently causing them to incur damages.

According to the first lawsuit filed in December, CD Projekt made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that Cyberpunk 2077 was “virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs.”

It goes on to state that issues with the console version caused “reputational and pecuniary harm” due to Sony’s decision to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, and other platform holders subsequently offering full refunds.

CD Projekt said “the content” of a second lawsuit brought against it in January “including its subject and scope, is the same” as the December class action.

In a statement responding to the class action in December, CD Projekt said it would “undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims.”

CD Projekt has named Gabriel Amatangelo as Cyberpunk 2077's new game director.

The appointment follows the departure of former quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, who has stepped down from the position and left the studio.

Amatangelo joined CD Projekt in January 2020 as a creative director for Cyberpunk. Prior to the role, he worked as design director on Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, as well as lead designer on various expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

He will be tasked with leading the development of Cyberpunk's future expansions.

Former Cyberpunk game director, Adam Badowski, will now focus on other leadership duties inside the company. This includes CD Projekt's RED 2.0 transition, which will see the studio alter its strategy in order to develop multiple AAA titles in parallel.

A new Cyberpunk 2077 job listing indicates that CD Projekt Red is getting back on track with plans for some kind of multiplayer component for the first-person RPG.

The CD Projekt Red listing is specifically filed under Cyberpunk 2077 on the studio's jobs page, and among its set of desired qualifications for a gameplay designer is "experience with narrative, multiplayer and/or shooters." As it stands now, Cyberpunk 2077 is an exclusively single-player experience, but the studio has been open about its plans to create a multiplayer experience for or alongside the base game as well.

While a standalone Cyberpunk multiplayer game was previously set to be CD Projekt Red's next big project after releasing Cyberpunk 2077, the studio "decided to reconsider" the project's direction as part of a massive restructuring of its development approach: "Given our new, more systematic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day," studio CEO Adam Kiciński said at the time.

Since this job listing specifically asks for experience with multiplayer games, it's a pretty safe assumption that CD Projekt Red is once again looking into the possibilities for some kind of Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer. It may seem odd for the company to be looking into plans for something as substantial as the addition of a multiplayer experience when it's still trying to get all of the game's current versions relisted for sale after numerous launch issues. However, these kinds of decisions have to be made years in advance in the complicated process of making a modern, big-budget game, and preparing for one doesn't preclude work on the other.

Cyberpunk 2077 also recently brought on a new game director whose main remit will be leading work on future Cyberpunk 2077 expansions, which CD Projekt has previously teased will be handled in a similar way as The Witcher 3's DLC.

The next Cyberpunk 2077 update will roll out within "a few weeks" according to the latest earnings report from CD Projekt Red.
