Speaking at their latest earnings call, CD Projekt Red’s management talked about the upcoming game they have in the works—Cyberpunk 2077. The studio said that the upcoming RPG will be “even better, even bigger, and more revolutionary” than anything they’ve come up with thus far, including The Witcher 3. The game, they say, is even bigger in scope than what they had originally planned to do with it.
Studio head Adam Badowski said that the game won’t be out for a long time, and stressed that it would take the studio a lot of work to make it a “truly outstanding game.” So don’t expect it to come out any time this year.
He went on to state that Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge game that’s much greater in magnitude than the Witcher series of games.
To meet its goal of making their biggest game ever, the studio will be expanding to hire even more developers—doubling its headcount, which currently stands at roughly 400 people. The new developers will work on other projects currently in the works at the studio. Badowski stated that the developers would be split into four distinct groups, some of whom will “penetrate new gaming segments,” whatever that means.
Cyberpunk 2077 was originally announced way back in 2012 and has yet to be showcased to the public. Outside of a CGI trailer, little else has been shown.
