For some reason the Xbox 360 seems to generate rumours in a much higher number than either the PS3 or the Wii. And here we have another one � and this time it�s a biggie. If true, it means there will be a new and improved model of the Xbox 360 released over the next 18 months. Before you all get your knickers in a twist, this isn�t a next generation console. Even though Microsoft killed the original Xbox off quickly to switch to the 360, there�s no indication that a similar thing is about to happen again. Instead, the new model, codenamed Xbox 540 (at least by the people putting the rumour out there), will be a new and improved version of the Xbox 360.
Similar to what Sony did when they launched the slimline version of the Playstation 3 back in the day, the new Xbox 360 would be essentially the same machine, just smaller, faster, quieter and with some added features.
The rumours, reported by T3, are coming out of Taiwan, where the new Valhalla chipset is due to be manufactured. The Valhalla will form the basis for the new model, and enable Microsoft to make the console skinnier, speedier, and quieter than the current model.
While there is no mention of the long rumored Blue-Ray drive, this could also be the opportunity to introduce the rumored Newton controller, the Wii Remote-like handheld device for operating games. The other advantage is that this model would be cheaper to produce, which could lead to further price cuts.

These plates were professionally manufactured by a machine shop to our specific requirements. They are made from .75mm thick 7075 Aluminum. This might not seem as strong as steel, but it doesn't really matter because the plates will be sitting against the bottom of the chassis and there is no way for them to bend once in place. The aluminum used it very similar to the metal that the 360s chassis is made from. It also conducts heat a lot better than steel and was lot cheaper to get made, meaning a cheaper price for all customers as well. All holes have been precisely pre-cut and are ready for screws.

Another benefit of using the metal plates is that it Practically slices the time it takes to do the Hybrid fix in half since there is no more prep work and no more cut fingers tearing apart the old x-clamps.

The plates provide a perfectly flat smooth surface for the pads to rest on which is a bit nicer than using the x-clamps as well and should help ensure even pressure is applied to the motherboard.

They will be available with the foam pads pre-installed as well so the whole thing is completely ready for use.
