Rumour: Motorstorm 3 goes Apocalyptic
We knew it was coming, but not like this. Motorstorm, the series that defined what off-road racing should be, has unexpectedly taken a liking to asphalt and cityscapes. Rather than plowing through the mud and foliage of a remote island, or slamming opponents off the side of a high altitude cliff, the team at Evolution Studios seem to be going in a direction that we may not like.

Based off the leaked screenshots provided by PS3Gen, one of the new environments within Motorstorm 3 is an apoctalyptic San Francisco, littered with debris and crumbled buildings. It's a sight that should be familiar to anyone who watched the movie 2012, and is probably the least obvious location to place the Motorstorm series within, save for two important details.

In one photo, clouds of smoke are seen emanating from below two buildings in the distance, which means that the entire environment may be dynamic in nature. How satisfying would it be to narrowly escapes a falling skyscraper while your slower opponents get smashed to pieces? Or fly through windows on a motorcycle and skid through offices and malls, hopping from floor to floor?

The one thing that really stands out though is the use of people as fodder. In one image, a group of survivors looks like they're about to be run over by the player, and it seems just a tad violent within the context of this series. Whether they expertly dodge vehicles like pro stuntmen, or get stuck underneath the axels of cars and trucks, has yet to be determined.

Despite the urban setting, there's still some great opportunities for plowing through mud and foliage, such as in parks, zoos, and even residential areas. The game should get a more thorough and enlightening reveal at E3. But until then, make sure to check back on ConsolePress for all your gaming news!
