Fresh evidence supporting the existence of the PlayStation 4K, aka Neo, has surfaced via industry giants AMD.
The company has revealed three new chips as part of its Semi-Custom design process business, which are believed to pertain to the long-rumored PS4 revamp, as well as the new Nintendo console, NX, and Microsoft’s reported Xbox One redesign.
These components have been forecast to generate a whopping $1.5 billion in revenue for AMD over the next three-four years.
Speaking on the new chips, Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, noted that “not all of these products would ship this year,” and adding, "I don't believe that we've gone through any detail about what those wins are, so I would prefer to let that come out as our customers are ready to launch."
Rumors on the PS4K (or PS4.5) started circulating earlier this year, with initial reports claiming that Sony will announce the new hardware prior to the launch of PlayStation VR in October 2016. A release date of Holiday 2016 and a price point of $400 also started doing the rounds.
More recently however, it has been suggested that the device won’t be released until March of next year. Reports also reveal that Neo will boast a meatier processor and graphics processor, plus higher bandwidth RAM.
With E3 just around the corner, hopefully we’ll finally get an official confirmation of PS4.5 soon enough.
