Gran Turismo 5 is currently slated for this "holiday season". The holiday season in Japan carries over into early January with the New Year holidays. Sony would not clarify to Kotaku whether the game will be out by the end of 2010 or in early 2011.
In another tweet, Yamauchi stated that he thought players would have to wait until the end of the year. Kotaku has also followed up with series creator to confirm if the game will be out in 2010, but has not heard back.
Financial Analysts Comment on Impact of GT5 Delay
Eurogamer has some interesting comments from financial and industry analysts on what the delay means for Sony and the PlayStation brand this fall during the critical Christmas sales season.
Capital Research’s Jesse Divnich: ”I don’t believe a GT5 delay impacts Sony’s current momentum. GT5 is such an anticipated title that delays are unlikely to impact consumer’s purchase intent. Whether released a week later or the last week of December, sales will be astronomical.”
Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter: “Without knowing the date, it’s impossible to say,” he said. “If it’s a week, no impact. If after Need for Speed, they could lose some momentum.”
M2 Research’s Billy Pidgeon: ”Another delay on Gran Turismo is disappointing, especially to the most enthusiastic fans of the franchise. Still, there have been so many delays that another one is not surprising. Obviously, there’s not much time left in the holiday season so Yamauchi and Polyphony have got to go gold within two months.
I wouldn’t revise PS3 uptake estimates on this news as it is still possible GT5 is released in Q4 2010 or Q1 2011 and is likely to spur new and upgrade console sales. Sony has set the visuals bar pretty high with Gran Turismo,” he offered, “so it is crucial that the graphics (as seen on HDTV and in stereoscopic 3D with camera-based head tracking) impress the critics and the fans. Gran Turismo 5’s timely release is perhaps even more crucial to Sony’s 3D TV division than it is to PS3. In-store demos of GT5 may be the best case Sony can make to consumers for 3D TV.”

“We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday. Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.”
This somewhat confusing statement wasn’t lost on the Times editor, who didn’t hesitate to add “there was also speculation that Sony might not have sufficient supplies of the game to meet demand in November”. This speculation was later supported by a comment from a Sony Canada spokesperson to Reuters Canada, clearly stating that “production difficulties were to blame for the delay”.
An associate journalist of GameReactor, Gregor Wildermann, is currently in Tokyo and offers an even more detailed explanation of what happened via communication with Polyphony Digital:[Kazunori Yamauchi's] reply was that the game was only three days late from their side, and that Sony has to decide what that means for the release.On a similarly positive note, I have been privately informed that review copies of GT5 were only briefly postponed and should still be in reviewer’s hands within the next few weeks. I can also report Sony is targeting a new release window within approximately 8-12 days after November 26.
Este o oarecare sansa ca totul sa fie gata, finalizat, pregatit si lansarea sa fie amanata doar de dragul discutiilor in plus care se vor crea in jurul jocului. Lumea se plange de fazele astea dar tot il cumpara, indiferent daca apare pe 31.12.2010... sau mai tarziu de atat. Mi-e tare greu sa cred ca un publisher precum Sony, cu asa o experienta in spate, sa nu se pregateasca pentru diverse scenarii de criza... treaba cu probleme la productie o zice cineva care lanseaza primul joc, nu Sony, come oooon.
Toate comentariile de genul "nu conteaza, sa apara cand e gata, e bine ca l-au mai amanat, poate-l mai finiseaza" au dat curaj celor de la Sony sa lanseze jocul cand au chef. De asta si explicatiile pentru intarzieri a celor de la Polyphony sunt sub forma "am vrut sa oferim ceva finisat 100%".
Va dati seama ce suparari si scandaluri ar fi iesit daca ar fi explicat ca "e in interesul corporatiei Sony sa cream cat mai mult buzz, pentru a ne asigura o expunera cat mai mare in preajma lansarii, indiferent daca am tinut jocul in productie ani de zile si l-am mai intarziat o buna bucata de timp. La final de zi, conteaza mult cati bani scoatem din jocul asta".
Asa au zis si 3D Realms despre Duke Nukem Forever si uite ca de 13 ani incoace nu l-a jucat nimeni inca. Eu sper sa scoata totusi GT5 anul asta si sa putem pune mana pe el, cu toate ca in perioada sarbatorilor posta romana nu e asa harnica.Originally Posted by Diesel

sa fim seriosi . Un Firmware mai nou nu aduce nimic la hardware. Orice joc poate fi setat sa nu porneasca decat cu nush ce versiune de soft. Mai mult de o secventa de cod nu are ce sa optimizeze la asta.
Si eu nu cred ca mai au timp sa lucreze in luna care a ramas. Nici macar sa finiseze. Daca vor sa il lanseze de Craciun, ganditi-va ca trebuie produs, multiplicat si distribuit cu ceva timp inainte ca sa ajunga la timp la distribuitori si in fina la clienti.
Probabil au gasit vreun bug major care le-a dat peste cap totul. Nici macar nu e multiplatforma sa justifice atatea probleme. Probabil ca l-au amanat ca sa se creeze mai mult tam-tam si sa se vanda mai mult.

Radu, am impresia ca GRID a fost si va ramane o exceptie. O fi fost el mai arcade si mai saracacios la unele faze, dar la damage inca nu am intalnit joc care sa-l depaseasca.
